The 1098 doesn't have the processor or inputs to accept the new DD and DTS signals that will come from Blue-ray and HDDVD. Did you waste your money? No. It's still going to be at least another year before the replacement comes out and even then I doubt the new DVD battle will be settled enough to warrant an upgrade.
