    Bass Enhance

My brand spanking old DC-1 arrives tomorrow and I have a couple of questions about BE.

Firstly, I don't use a center. Will this affect BE, or indeed improve it?

Second, I know Lexicon recommends sides down to 40Hz, would going even further into Hades be beneficial?

And while I am deciding upon long term sides and rears, will BE work with just sides and no rears?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I delve into Lexiconia but all replies appreciated.

Ahhh, welcome to the Club Steve! Literally, lol.

You ask tough questions man. I tell ya, with all the moderating, and site design I do now, I just don't have enough time to delve into the books, so I can't completely answer your questions off the top of my head. But I will try!

Firstly, I don't use a center. Will this affect BE, or indeed improve it?
    No effect.

Ok, you want the long answer I suppose. I believe that center bass is either rerouted to the mains or to the subwoofer output, so the real impact is slight if any to running phantom center.

Second, I know Lexicon recommends sides down to 40Hz, would going even further into Hades be beneficial?
Well, I believe the sides can be full range and they could play that low. They recommend a setting of 40 or lower, I think. 40 Hz is the highest limit you can have and achieve the results of bass enhance. Truthfully, I never really ran any tests, I just set it on and leave it.

And while I am deciding upon long term sides and rears, will BE work with just sides and no rears?
Well, to my knowledge, you need sides and rears, because part of the enhanced bass is rear channel bass which is directed to the sides, along with some front left and right bass. At least I think.

I will try to get my book out and confirm some of this soon. Great questions!

Steve, rethinking this no center. Under normal circumstances, the bass would be rerouted to the mains/sub. Depending upon the crossover setting. However, with the speaker set to off, it's hard to say that bass enhance bass below 40 hz say, would still be directed to the sides, with center set to off. Being off could dictate that it's routed to the mains/sub. Not sure.

Did you get the Lexicon yet? I assume that you did. So, how's it performing?
