    RDC 7 Multi-Channel in

    Hi

I hope one of you guys can help

With HD DVDs I wish to get 7.1 channnel multi channel in to my RDC7 - But I am unsure of what cable I need to use. The manual refers to a DB25 to 6 Channel RCA lead but will this only give me 5.1 multi channel in?.

Do I need a DB25 to 8 channel RCA lead?

    Many thanks

The multi-channel cable adaptor that comes with the RDC-7 has a DB25 connecter and six RCA leads for 5.1 channels. For full 7.1, you would need to get a cable with DB25 and eight leads.

I have seen such cable adaptors advertised online with either XLR or RCA leads with prices ranging from about $50 to $150. Since none of these were specifically designed for use with the RDC-7, and I have not tried any of them with mine, I do not know if their pin assignments are compatible with the RDC-7's DB25 output. So you would want to be sure the seller offers a "no questions asked" return policy, just in case it turns out to be configured in a way that the RDC-7 does not support.

None of the suppliers of such devices are advertisers on this site, so I am not providing links to their advertising pages. A number of these were advertised by companies catering to the "professional" rather than "home theater" sound market, the same or similar products may be available locally at pro sound shops in you area. When you locate such a device, the best way to find out if it works with the RDC-7 would be to try it.

    Good luck!

    Burke

PS -- If others have had success finding and using this type of adaptor for the RDC-7, please chime in.

What you DON'T say may be held against you...

      Hi Burke,
with new multichannel hd audio formats, also I try to find an adapter for my RDC-7 db25 7.1 input, but I have not found it. Therefore I am thinking to build it myself.

Following the THX db25 5.1 pin assignement, which could be pins for back surrounds?
Being RDC-7 a THX certifyed device, this diagram can be followed in order to find the pins for the allocation of the back surrounds. What do you think about?

THX 5.1 pin assignement (male connector):

      Pin 1 left
      Pin 14 left ground
      Pin 2 center
      Pin 15 center ground
      Pin 3 right
      Pin 16 right ground
Pin 4 Low frequency signal (subwoofer)
Pin 17 Low frequency signal (subwoofer) ground
      Pin 5 left surround
      Pin 18 left surround ground
      Pin 6 right surround
      Pin 19 right surround ground

      Hello,
      Davide

        Hi Burke

Thanks for the confirmation - I tried asking Onkyo in the UK but no joy (they hadn't heard on Integra Research)

I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes

If that fails I can always attempt the a home grown route like Davide

        Many thanks

Today I have verified, with a tester, the correspondence, on the original IR adapter, of RCA connectors with the pins to DB25 connector .

If DB25 door of the RDC-7 is THX compatible, then the correspondences are these:

          DB25 PIN_______________RCA Color (channel)

          1-14___________________BLUE (Front Left)
          2-15___________________GREEN (Front Center)
          3-16___________________RED (Front Right)
          4-17___________________BROWN (Subwoofer)
          5-18___________________BLACK (Left Surround)
          6-19___________________YELLOW (Right Surround)

          THX DB25 Pinouts (female connector)

Which could be the pin for the back surround? Maybe 7-20 and 8-21?

          Many thanks,
          Davide

PS: IR have, on the world, a inefficient customer service.

            Building a 5xRCA-DB25 cable
            by htmad
I would like to build a cable to connect the 5.1 output of my DVD player to the DB25 connector of my RSP 985, but I do not have the pin reference for the DB25 connector.

Is there anybody that has such pin reference?

            Thanks in advance.

            DB25 to RCA cable

Where can I get a DB25 to RCA cable?

Am planning to buy a Blu-Ray Profile 2.0 Panasonic DMP-BD50 player which has 6 5.1 channel analog RCA audio outputs. My Rotel RSX-965 is equipped with a DB25 25 pin 5.1 channel analog audio input.

I need the three analog inputs but i'm a bit concerned!

(My DVD-A/SACD player connects to multichannel in)
My vinyl thing will go to L2/R2,
a switch with 3 things connected to L3/R3,
use an XLR/RCA adapter for the L1/R1 for connecting a tape machine.

Why only some amps have ground pin?
            by dvdchance
just curious why some of the Rotel amps, 1095, have a third ground pin while others, like my 1075, don't?

is the 1095 "safer" because it has the ground pin?

DB25 cable caused all my issues in RSP-985
            by Rotel4Life
Got a used 985 from an auction site. Looks perfect but had a hum on all inputs, all sources, on mute etc. If it was on, there was a hum. Also there was an audio 'hiccup'- like a 1/2 sec pause in sound every few minutes. My setup worked perfectly with an RTC965, nothing changed but swapping the 965...
