    C2/A51=sonic nirvana in paradise

Just wanted to add to the accolades bestowed on these units. I've had the pair in my listening room for about two weeks now and have to say that they have profoundly changed my listening environment. I know am able to take full advantage of the sonic attributes of my modified Denon DVD-5900. The sound on SACD, DVD-audio and redbook cd is up there with the best I've heard on any system. I plugged my phono stage into the balanced (bypass) inputs on the c2 and was absolutely thrilled with the results on lps. I'll post more details on the sonic characteristics as things break in.

Hi, Alan, and welcome to the Guide! Yes, we would love to hear more about your experience. And please tell us about your modified 5900, too!

Kaneohe, Hawaii? Right on Alan! I had a girlfriend from there, but I'm from Manoa! Went to Punahou, class of '99! I live in LA now though...

...and yeah, how is that 5900 modified? Oh, and what is "redbook CD?"

Nick, Redbook refers to a standard garden-variety CD.

Mahalo, everyone. The 5900 was modified by Dan Wright (Modwright) and includes the following:
Upgrade all rectifiers in digital and analog power supplies to Harris FRED ultrafast soft-recovery diodes. Upgrade main stock power supply filtering caps in both power supplies, to Black Gates, including FK, N type and WK ‘Power Tank’ caps.
Upgrade key digital and analog decoupling caps in analog stage to Black Gate capacitors. Upgrade all 2CH op-amps to top quality Burr Brown units. Revise analog filtering for improved sonics. Revise analog coupling scheme to include Auricaps, eliminating all electrolytic cpacitors from the signal path. Also included AC Bybee Filter Upgrade; Bybee filters are hard-wired inside the unit at the AC mains providing power to the whole unit and the Analog Slipstream Bybee Package; Two Slipstream Bybees installed at analog outs - 2CH only.

Since I had the player shipped directly to Dan I can't compare before and after, but I'm extremely pleased with the results. Never thought I'd pay over 2K for a dvd player, but I have no regrets. As I said earlier, the parasound gear brings out the best in the player. Extremely detailed and revealing. The difference is most apparent on 2-channel redbook (regular cds). It makes them sound more like sacd's, more smooth/analog like with much less listener fatigue.

Very nice. I'm still holding out hope that Parasound will produce a Halo DVD player that can even top this!

If they do, it's gonna have to have HDMI output, 1080i upscaling, CD/SACD/DVD-A/MP3 playback capability, bass management for both DVD-A and SACD, Burr-Brown DAC's, and of course, those awesome blue halo lights.
