Audioholics Review of C1 and C2

I found the newly review of the Parasound C1 and C2 unit completed by Audioholics to be an interesting read. Based on the Scorecard (page 8) it would appear that the C1/C2 are only slightly above marginal products, something that I believe to be very far from the truth.

The review can be found at

Actually, the Audioholics review is pretty favorable if you are familiar with the criteria they use for grading components. In fact, I was afraid the Halo's would get slammed after reading their review of the Sunfire TGIII many months ago. Not because it is a sonically inferior component...but because Audioholics puts a premium on current technology and features.

Steve was very impressed with its sonic qualties, but as he said, because it is now a few years old (from concept) it is lacking many features and functions that are becoming standard on high-end recievers. All in all, a favorable review considering their criteria.

Well the looks alone of the gear make it at least 2 stars above all else out there! LOL!

I am happy with the C2 but I wish that Parasound would get their $h!t together and release that firmware upgrade!!! I mean come on, if Rotel can put out upgrades on a regular basis then why can't Parasound? I just can not stand having a expensive piece of HT gear that does not have the latest and greatest processing modes.....

      But I digress......

        Yup, somebody's getting impatient, huh?

Well, we went through CES without any new info announced or equipment/firmware released. But the HE show is in NYC in a month. Who knows, maybe something will come out there... (keeping my fingers crossed)

Does anybody know which firmware version the C2 they used in this review had?

My C2 with firmware 6.52 (which I thought is the latest release) can only be dimmed in one setting; pressing it once it dims, pressing it again it glows bright again. In the review however he mentions it has 3 dimmed modes and even can be turned off completely?

Also I think the review is a very positive one, which is good.

Not sure what firmware they used. I'm also not sure if the C2 is different from the C1 as far as dimming. But my C1 does have 3 dimming levels and can be completely turned off as well. Version 6.39.
