    A51 fifth channel defect

    Hi,

After a night of some really bad weather the fifth channel does'nt work anymore.
all other channels 1-4 work fine, only 4 leds are lit blue and 1 not at all.
does anybody know if there is a simple fix for this? change a fuse or something??
or does this mean its fubar?

strange thing is it wasn't even on standy that night, my other hifi are ok

Luke- I think one other person here in the Club has experienced that. You can search here, as I don't recall what their fix was. I'd recommend a quick call to Parasound tech support, and it should straighten things out.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

It sounds like your speaker cable run picked up a surge (from the air or from adjacent cable runs) and fried one of the output mosfets...

      Not exactly a DIY fix...

        Ok
The repairshop fixed it nicely now , but the channel doesn't heat up as much as the other channels, probably the bias.
Can i adjust this myself? the shop is a long drive...

        tnx

A lower bias (less heat) does no damage. Unless the repaired channel sounds worse, there's no reason to adjust it IMHO.

            He Peter that sounds interesting,
if it doesn't damage the speakers i might considering lowering the bias on the other surround channel.
That saves some on the elec.bill and heat output.

              Ground loop with new A51
              by mikepinkerton
So I hooked up my brand new A51 (thanks tduski!) and immediately got a ground loop hum. Sigh! After about 20 minutes of playing with cables and outlets and plugging and unplugging gear I read the manual (shock!) and found that setting the "ground" switch to "lift" fixed all my problems....

              A51 transformer hum...Need power conditioner?
              by jeweltone2002
              Hi,

I recently purchased the A51, and I am getting a hum from the transformer. The hum comes directly from the A51 unit and not through the speaker (it's not a ground loop problem). I send the A51 back to Parasound for repair and they replaced the transformer (very good technical support...

              Parasound C2 with the A52 or A51 or 1205A ???
              by john4618
I'm getting a Parasound C2 and want to know which amp to use, the A51 at 250 watts RMS x 5 –or- the A52 at 125 watts RMS x 5 –or- should I just use my 1205A that I already have ???

I can't demo these so I have some questions:

              1. I’m told that my 1205A is a little...

Soft (and loud!) hiss from your speakers with C1/A51?
              by netarc
I'm trying to troubleshoot a *hiiisss* emanating from the speakers when the C1 and A51 are connected and powered up. At a steady state (no inputs playing), the hiss is actually quite loud ... one can hear it from all 5x speakers quite clearly, even from a distance of 10'!

              Tried toggling...

              Lexicon LX-5/CX-5 v A51?
              by mikepinkerton
I'm curious if people have had much experience comparing the A51 to either of the Lexicons above. The CX seems more closely matched in price, but obviously the LX is the benchmark. I know i'm posting in the parasound forum, and I want a little bit of bias, but you all seem rather level-headed, so I...
