Technical Help need w/ Parasound Equip

Hi, I've encountered a problem with my sound in which I am desperate to find a solution. I will try my best to explain the problem..

Since I've finished my theater, i've probably watched a movie everyday in it since, which was about 3-6 months ago. Everything was fine until yesterday..As for setup, I have a Parasound A51 & A21, The L/R channel through the 2 channel, which is then going through a Parasound C2 controller to a 7.1 speaker setup..

So, I sat down to watch a movie with a DTS 6.1 soundtrack and about 20 min into the movie I realize all the voices are coming from the rears..Then I realize that none of the front speakers are making any sound at all! At first I thought it was the DVD player..its a Denon 3910 and its gave me problems in the past where no sound would come from the center channel and a simple power off then back one would fix it, not this time.. So then I put in a different DVD..same thing. So THEN I put in a CD, all the sound in stereo came from the rears again. I finally figured out that my surround sides where acting as my L/R channels and my surround backs were acting as my Center channel. So, knowing that it might not be the DVD player, I hooked up a different source, an xbox, only to find the sound again only came from the rears. Now, it doesnt seem as if the fronts do not work at all and the only sound you hear is the ambient sound from the rears, it sounds as if the rears actually got switched and are now acting as my fronts. You can still here the slight hiss from the fronts so you know they are on, they also respond to volume change.

Sorry this is long, but its the only way I can describe the problem, can anyone help me? I havent switched anything in the settings for this to happen, and even if I did hit something on the remote, is there even a setting to have this happen? Thanks..

A good start is to go into the speaker level setup on the C2 and press TEST on your remote. Do you hear the test sound from all speakers?

Ok, I just tried the test and I get the test sound from the front speakers. Any other ideas?

What about if you set the listening mode to STEREO. Where does the sound come from? How about PARTY mode?

Going off of memory, yesterday I tried all those modes and the sound still only came out of the rears...But, you have solved my problem! When I ran the test sounds, I tried to cancel them but it just froze up on me, so I had to turn the processor off by turning of the PSU, and when it came back on I tried it and the front speakers worked again, with a CD and a DVD. Im so relieved that its fixed but what do you think could have caused that to happen? It took a complete reboot (which kept my calibrated settings) to fix.. Thanks again!

Probably caused by bad power. Are you using any type of power conditioning for the C2 ? For instance a PS Audio Power Plant or Noise Harvester might be a good investment...

No, im not. All the plugs im using are dedicated 15a and 20a plugs just for the audio/video equipment. Maybe I should invest in a line conditioner. Thanks.

This has happen to me as well. It started after I applied the first patch to the software update. I had to re-boot the system to get the correct speaker orientation. Re-patching with the latest software update finally solved the problem. I don't know if the first patch was the cause, or if the patching process caused something to go haywire. Since the latest patch, everything has worked fine.

I have had my front L/R speakers stop playing through the C1 as well. It's pretty scary. I simply hard reboot t every time it happens and I'm good to go. I'd say it happens every 6 months or so.

Such is life when the controller is a computer processor at-heart.

                    It should be macintosh-based. =P

First, hi, Pexeter, and welcome to the Guide and Club Parasound!

The phenomena of the front mains appearing in the rears has been talked about by several people. It first appeared when we applied the Dolby Pro Logic IIx update in the 6.80 software. I got it myself a couple times in my C1, and as you mentioned, was resolved with a reboot. Parasound released an update for this, 6.86, which takes care of the rare channel swap. If you go to Parasound's website and download the latest software update mentioned, it should take care of the problem for you.

If you need to know how to check your software version, click on the sticky links at the top of the Club.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

                        2 Parasound 855 or 1 Larger Amp
                        by Jeff Aguilar
Soon, I should be going the route of seperates. I would like to make this as inexpensive as possible. I was thinking of getting the 950 as a pre-pro but in the interm, I would use my Yamaha 992.

Would it be a good idea to get 2 Parasound 855's and bi-amp the front three or would it be...

                        by DrBoom
Well, it's been almost 2 months now that I've lived with both my Rotel RSP1098 and my Parasound C2 and the time for deciding which I'm going to keep is almost at hand.(not that I HAVE to decide now for some reason, but I'd hate to end up with 2 processors permanently)
I actually own both of them,...

Well I have both the RSP1098 and C1 side by side and I have had the C1 a full week and have played CD, DVD, Satellite TV's and am ready to give a general comparison of strengths and weaknesses.

                        by suds1280
I am very interested in puchasing a five channel amp, and I have heard nothing but good things about Parasound, so I put it on my short list of manufacturers, along with B&K, Rotel, Anthem and Bryston. As of right now, I would like to purchase a good 5 channel amp, and I do not need more than 125...
