    A23 Questions?

Now that I have the Parasound 7100 with DD-EX and DTS-ES I want to add amplification to the back channels for EX/ES. I want to get the A23 Halo with 125watts perchannel. Right now I'm using the HCA-1205A 5 channel AMP.Here the question. Should I use the Halo for the main L/R channels and the 1205A for the other 5 channels? The HCA1205 A is 140 perchannel if that helps. Thanks J.H.

Yes. You should use the A23 for the L+R channels.

It's not the fact that it's a Halo. It's the different design of the two amps (5ch vs 2ch Parasound designs). The power supply in the A23 uses a more tightly shared bank of capacitors than the 5 channel amp does. The same issues appear in the A21 vs A51. (The A21 should be used for the fronts, and the A51 for the rest of the channels).

Heres the bigger question then. since I'm going to buy the A23 should i start with that and buy two more down the road to replace the HCA-1205A? Use three two channel Halo amps for amplification? Thanks J.H.

            Why not an A23 + A52 ?

Are you doing 5, 6, or 7 channels?

Because I thought the more separate the channels the better the system? J.H.

Well, this mostly goes for the front speakers since they're the ones used in critical (read: stereo) listening.

Still, doing 6 channels (fronts, surrounds, center and one rear channel) with three A23s is by all means a great option. However, if you want to do 7 channels with stereo rears, then I'd go with the A52 (or just keep the 1205 that you have. It certainly is good enough).

Thanks for the help. I think I may just get the A23 put in with the main channels and see whats up. I then may get the 5250 to get 250 watts perchannel. Its not John Curl designed though which bothers me some. The guy is noted as a genius. Do think that should stop me? Maybe I'll just keep the 1205A. I'm more confused but thats ok its all in good fun. J.H.

Well, if going for more power, why not get an A21 now, and then an A51 later. You could pick up used ones at great deals. I've seen good A21s going for $1100 used and A51s going for $2300 used.

You might also want to check with Brent Huskins (bhuskins - forum sponsor) for B-stock pricing too. B-stock units have the advantage to carry the FULL 10 year Parasound warranty, yet the price is much lower (not far from what I mention above).

More good information. I bought my 7100 B-stock from Audioadvisors.com. Am I being a little overboard with only wanting to buy Parasound amps designed by John Curl or is it all justified? J.H.

I think you're on the wrong track. If you want a "true" John Curl amp that badly, then only the JC-1 will be good enough. The A-series just won't cut it.

I would go all the way with the new classic series simply to aesthetically match your 7100... (FYI, I think the only Halo amp that is "pure" John Curl is the JC-1. The other amps are only "based" on JC design...)

Also, the "new classic" series is good in the sense that it conserves energy. (I'm afraid to see my next electricity bill... 8O )

Anyway, if you still WANT to go JC, then I can hear you. In this case I would recommend a pair of JC-1s for the fronts and an A51 for the rest of the channels. (Anything more than that is probably insane and should be reserved for loonies like me :B Ok, I do have a special type of speakers that explain the hunger for power, so maybe I'm not that crazy... )

I can tell you one thing for sure: The deal you can get from Brent will beat Audioadvisor ANY day :T :B

Is that so? From Brent I can get a good deal with full warranty? Sounds great. Maybe I will get the 5250 because man is the 250 watts per tempting.I never had anything that poweful before in my system and am craving the power but really for no particular reason other than I want to hear it. Thanks J.H.

Yes. The name of Brent's business is "Media Design" (see the banner that likely is on the top of the page when you read this). He's an authorized Parasound dealer.

                              Currently I have a cinenova grande 5 amp (300x5) and a Sherwood/Newcastle P-965 pre/pro. I was able to get a great deal on a b&w htm2, which I plan to use in rear setting for 6.1.

My dilemma is that I do not have the power for that back speaker. The speaker is rated at 120w. In evaluating...

I am considering using Parasound Halo amps for my center and surround. I am debating if I would be better off getting a A52 or two A23. I only need 3 channels of amplification so ether option would meet my needs. I could save about $200 by getting the pair of A23. Does anyone know if there is a performance...

As you can see, I live in Brasil, which is not a good place to live if you like high quality audio. Everything is very expensive due to import taxes,...

I'm in need of some advice with regard to a multichannel amp purchase, I'm trying to decide between the Halo A51 or the newer Classic 5250 power amps. I own a Halo C2 processor and i'm...
