Anyone with 96KHz PCM sources?

I recently changed my HTPC PCM SPDIF output from 48KHz to 96KHz.

The mode on my C2 immediately switched from Party to Stereo. I now can only change it to Mono or back to Stereo mode with the 96KHz input.

Is this the way it's supposed to work? Anyone else have a 96KHz input?

Nobody has tried this or knows why the mode gets limited to stereo and mono?

If I had to guess I'd say the processor doesn't have enough horsepower to process the 96khz signal in any way. The C2 manual certainly doesn't seem to shed any light on it.

Uh... hmm.... now if you put the SPDIF output from 96khz back to 48 khz (I didn't know you could do this) can you then select ALL audio processing modes again?

Yes, if switched back to 48 KHz , all modes available for PCM sources are accessible. I was able to use 96KHz sources on my sony TA-E9000ES with all modes available. I guess this is an issue with the DAC's and their limitations, but I would like to get confirmation.

I have the same problem with my Rotel RSX-1056; when it detects PCM 96KHz, I cannot change the sound format to anything else then 2ch stereo, and in the manual it says that HDCD @ 96KHz and PCM 2-ch @ 96KHz cannot be overriden to anything else, just like DTS and Dolby Digital.
The only way that I went around this problem, is that I kept a digital connection for DTS/Dolby Digital pass-through (movies), and an analog connection for regular music or games, that way the music gets decoded in the sound card, but movies get processed in the receiver.
Try looking in your C2 user manual in the "manual surround mode selection" (or how ever it is called) capter. That's where I found my answer for the 1056.
