Can Mono Blocs be left on all day ? day after day

Can Mono Blocs like the Parasound JC1 or the FPB Krell work well as part of a HT that's for TV. Meaning that using if for the LR Fronts running all day long everyday as part of Satellite TV viewing. I know the JC1 runs hotter than the Krells and one has to wonder if they can be used like the 3 and 5 channel models which seem to be built for continued running.

    Your views would be appreciated

    thanks

First, let me correct you. The JC 1s do NOT run hotter than the FPB Krells (e.g. 450Mcx) assuming that JC 1 LOW BIAS OPERATION is selected.

Also, the JC 1 is designed for continuous running. You can certainly run them 24/7 if your air conditioning and electricity bill allow for it.

JC 1 low bias is 10 watts. In this mode, the JC 1 emits approximately the same heat as the A51. However, if you set the toggle switch to 25 W high bias, you will have 2.5 times the heat output. In this mode, the JC 1s will be pretty hot after being on for a few hours.

As for keeping the JC 1 on 24/7, it certainly is no problem. I remember that Bob Crump said he runs his JC1s 24/7 in low bias and only flips them over to high bias for critical listening.

One thing that you need to observe is that most amps are designed for normal room temperature (max 80F/25C environment or cooler). If your air conditioning cannot meet this requirement, you may need to upgrade it.

FWIW, I've upgraded my system to use nine (9) JC1 monoblocks...

    Thanks,
    Peter

      Thanks Peter,

Did you ever make the comparison between Classe, Parasound and Krell when listening to mono bloc's. My Kav 3250 and 2250 don't run that hot. They are on standby except when iin use. Room temp is pretty warm n the summertime but I don't find them too hot. I even have something on top of each one.

No. I bought my JC-1s without listening to them. I believe that the only way to be able to hear a difference would be an in-home audition where ONLY the amps are swapped between auditions....

I was thinking if I ever went to mono I would either stick with Krell FPB's or I've heard so many good things about Classe M. I am in the same position. I am forced to just buy something to try out at home. Nobady here has that kind of material.

In this case I would definitely go with the JC-1. It's the least expensive of the three, and you can always trade up. (I would skip the Classé M400, since I don't think it's any better than the JC-1, only more expensive. If going Classé, I would go directly with the Omega or Omicron monos).

IMHO the ladder is (bottom-to-top): Parasound JC-1 ($7,000), Krell FPB-450Mcx ($18,500), Classé Omega Monos ($25,000).

Yeah, I was thinking about a used FPB cx 300 or 350 latest model used for around $4000 to $5000 USD.

I've heard a lot fo good things about JC1's and you can pick them up slightly used for a song and a dance. I have a C1, but I probably will stick with Krell.
