    Midrange Cone Question

I unfortunately had to sell my 802 Matrix S3 speakers, now the buyer is telling me the midrange cones aren't firing. He can't feel them move and doesn't hear sound coming from either of them. I haven't touched them recently but I didn't hear any gaps in their sound output. Any suggestions on what it could be? I was running them on a Denon AVR 5800 and he has them biamped apparently, not sure what brands or what not. I can't imagine what it could be. Thank you in advance.

You would definately notice if the midrange drivers were not working. As far as seeing them move.. With a dedicated base driver I doubt you would be able to see it..

I would imagine it is more a problem with his setup then anything. I would suggest he get back to the basics and single amp them and see if that solves the problem..
    Main System:
    B&W 801D
    Emotiva USP-1 Pre-Amp
    Chord SPM-650 Stereo Amp
    Oppo BDP-105
    Squeezebox Touch

    Second System:
    B&W CM7
    Emotiva UMC-1
    Emotiva UPA-2
    Oppo BDP-83SE
    Grant Fidelity DAC-09

Port vs. PR - Midrange quality
        by noah katz
I'm working on the design for a 2-way using the Eighteensound 12ND710 and BMS 4552ND on XT1086 horn/waveguide.

The woofer has a very low Q and the only way to get useful low end is by using porting or PR.

At first I assumed a PR would be less problematic than a port as...

        Midrange

A midrange driver is a loudspeaker driver designed to reproduce midrange frequencies in an audio system. It is responsible for bridging the gap of frequencies between the bass and treble ranges, typically from around 300 Hz to 2000 Hz, depending on the specific design, tweeter and woofer choice, and crossover points.

        Design criteria for midrange drivers:
        • Frequency Range: Midrange drivers are designed to cover the midrange frequency band with clarity and accuracy.

Speaker driver measurements: 2-4" midrange, full range
        by TMM
        Hi all,

Several years ago I measured a bunch of 2-4" cone midrange / 'full-range' drivers and published the results on my website in a 'Zaph Audio'-style. You can view the measurements and commentary here:

        Paper vs metal cone

Sorry if this topic has been discussed here -- please point me to it?

I'm asking about an age-old topic, but I am still trying to understand it. How does the cone material impact the sound, in general, for a midrange or midbass driver?

I used to believe that "given all...

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has measured the Cumulative Spectrum Decay for the 4 inch Tang Band W4-657sh Aluminium/Magnesium cone “full range”. http://www.tb-speaker.com/detail/1208_03/w4-657sh.htm
