    Two center speakers?

I'm thinking of picking up a pair of 601S3s to use as center channels to match with my 603S3 L/R. I have a 7 channel amp and only have five speakers so I suppose I could just split the center out from my pre-pro. Anyone see any advantage or problem with such an approach? I could use only one but it is unlikely that anyone will be selling just one so I thought maybe I could go ahead and make use of the two.

    Views? thanks.

Asked and answered every two to three weeks on one forum or another.

Having more than one source for the same signal results in interference evidenced by lobing and uneven spatial distribution with respect to frequency. It the two are separated horizontally, this is especially pernicious as it directly corrupts the frontal sound stage. If the two are separated vertically, it is less problematic but would be noticeable if the listener(s) stood up/sat down.

Use one in front. Use the other for center rear or as a spare.

On the other hand, posting something like this just adds more detritus to the internet since it has all been said already and several times by me (even in print). Frankly, I was tempted to not answer but to advise you to Google it. Guess I was in a softy mood.

Open baffle: single piece baffle or mids/highs separated?
                      by madisonears
I am building a 3 way open baffle system with mids/tweets OB but bass in a closed box. Should the baffle that holds the mids/tweets be separate from the baffle that holds the woofers? I see many designs that use a single piece for the entire baffle, even in hybrid systems like mine. I also see designs...

You can't have a new speaker without a new center channel to compliment it for home theater.

During the last several years the original Statements have been frequently used as mains for home theater systems. The original Statements...
