This is no April Fools Joke folks. During the next couple of days, we will be picking a day to migrate HTGuide to a new server. We will have the same reliable service we have always had, as we are not changing Hosting Services, only moving to a new updated state of the art server! Support is working to coordinate things right now.
We will announce the date of migration from old server to the new server in due time. We hope to minimize downtime while the DNS propagates to our new IP address, and service is restored. But some downtime is inevitable.
It probably is on the way out since the new series has all the bases covered. I use it with my 1080and 1095 with fantastic results. If you don't need internal decoding of HD audio it is an excellent choice. I do all my decoding in the BD player and output the 7.1 signal as 7.1 PCM through HDMI. It works very slick.
Hi,
I'm not sure if the RSP-1069 is being discontinued, however I can tell you that I use it with my RMB-1095 amplifier driving my B&W 804S and HTM3S speakers and it sounds fantastic.
I use a Blu-Ray player that is capable of internal decoding the new Lossless Audio formats and it is sending Linear PCM (LPCM) to the 1069 via HDMI and sounds incredible. The 1069 sounds great for 2 channel music as well through the 1095. I'm going HDMI out of the 1069 to my Pioneer Kuro Plasma, and the picture is great as well. I do have the scaler bypass modification on the 1069.
I thought about upgrading to the RSP-1570, but I really don't see what I would gain from it since I'm already getting the lossless audio codecs with my current setup and I'm very please with the way it sounds and operates.

Guys if you don't mind me asking, what bluray players are you using? The reason I ask is because i'm using a Panasonic Bd-50 with the 1069 with HDMI cables and I'm not getting that wow factor soundwise for some reason. Everything else especially the legacy codecs sounds great!

Hi hery19
I'm useing the PS3 with the RSP-1069. It's more of an increase in dynamics, clarity, and better separation is how I would describe it coming out of my B&W 805s/HTM4s. Standard dolby/dts sounds more laid back vs the new HD audio.
I notice the difference when the previews and other extras on the disc are in standard dd/dts compared to when the main feature plays in HD audio.
Also you can A/B the audio during the movies through the OSD. The PS3 remote lets me view and change audio settings while the movie is playing.

I have used the Pioneer BDP-51fd and the Panasonic DMP-BD50 with my RSP-1069. I agree with Ken49r and his perception of the lossless codecs vs the lossy codecs - more open sound, cleaner, more dynamic. Both units deliver great audio/video. You probably already know that you have to make sure that either player is set to decode the lossless audio, and in the movie itself, you also have to select the lossless audio track. If the player is set to bitstream rather than decode the lossless codecs, you will only get the Core (lossy) tracks even if the lossless track is selected in the movie.
For Dolby TrueHD, there is usually a setting on the player that controls DRC (Dynamic Range Compression). On a lot of players I've seen, it defaults to auto, on, or something similar. If you want all the dynamic range of the Dolby TrueHD track, turn this off. I "think" on the BD-50 (going from memory here), this was on the Audio Tab. Make sure you have the latest firmware for the BD-50 as well - there have been a few updates.
Could you tell me what the difference is between the 1690 and the 1570?
Seems that one differrence is HDMI v1.3.. vs HDMI v1.1. Sounds like you may have overcome this via a conversion in the PS3 before taking the signal to the 1069? Am I understanding correctly?
Also, if I have HD TV from a cable company or Direct TV, woudl the HDMI v1.3 be a big deal or does the cable company or Direct TV box do a similar conversion to the PS3?
Hopefully I am understanding you correctly.
The reason I am asking is I think I can get a good deal on a 1069 but want to make sure I am not missing out on something significant on the 1570.
Ken49r, piperpilot thanks for your replys. I believe all my settings are correct, and have the latest firmware, trust me I've experimented with all the settings to get the best possible sound. I'm probably yet not used to the clearer sound of separates compared to my old RSX-1055 receiver.
Again thanks for your help, Happy New Year!

I think the main difference between the 1570 and 1069 is that the 1570 has hdmi 1.3 and decodes the new hirez codecs internally and has a working video processor. The 1069 has hdmi 1.1 and does not decode the new codecs but you can get a bluray player that does the decoding internally and passes it PCM like the PS3, Sony 550, and the Panny's 35, 50, and 55. So it all depends on how good of a deal you're getting. There are some good reviews out there on the 1069 that can help you decide. Hope this helps, take care!

When I first got my B&Ws and my Rotel separates, I wasn't used to the true, clean sound either. I'd been listening to a cheap receiver into speakers with boomy, muddy bass. My dealer asked me to keep the gear for a month and let my ears adjust - he promised it would be better and if it wasn't I could return it. After a month with the new gear, I listened to my old cheaper system again and I was shocked at the difference a nice system and speakers made. The B&Ws and Rotel separates added a new dimension to my music and home theater. The highs were crisp and airy, the mids were clear, and the bass was very tight and detailed. I couldn't believe what I was missing before. Accurate speakers and good preamps and amplifiers can bring out nuances you probably never heard before. Unfortunately these accurate systems are also revealing in bad recordings and can reveal the "bad" in poor recordings. With good source material, good speakers, your system should sing. If you were like me, it took a while to get used to a more revealing system, but I could never go back now.
Just curious, what speakers and amp are you using?
Cheers!

I use a sony BDP S5000ES. The lossless codecs are indeed amazing, switching back and forth shows the difference between them and the legacy codecs right away. The legacy codecs seem "duller" in comparison, the HD codecs sound more natural and open, the sense of "reality" is total. Sometimes I look around wondering if something fell or if someone is walking around the room when its actually a surround effect of the movie :T I would love to A/B the ES to other sony players, but their top dog is pretty darned impressive. The few reports I have read suggest that its cheaper decoding sibblings 350, 550 and the PS3 sound is virtually identical. However, I don't know if they are comparing them using very revealing AV setups such as rotel/bw combos

I'm running B&W discontinued CM series: CM4's upfront, CMC center and CM2 rears powered by a Rotel 1075 amp. I think you are absolutely right, it's taking time for me to get used to the tighter bass and detail. Thanks for your help!

You bet.. You have a nice system. It also took some time for my B&W 804S speakers to break in. Must be the Kevlar they use, but over time, they have become warmer and sound much better than when I bought them. Again, it could be my ears adjusting as well. I recently replaced an old Definitive Technology sub a Velodyne DD series sub and that helped a lot with the impact and bass response for movies.
I am currently using my RSX-1057 as a Pre to my RMB-1075. I currently use a PS3 as my Blu-Ray player, but after I have a dedicated Pre/Pro that I can use HDMI for both audio and video I'll get a dedicated Blu-Ray player too.
What I'd like to know is, what do I gain in practical terms...
Hi there .... Been away for ages, and now have all my CD's on a NAS (compressed to Apple lossless) and wondering if I stream the lossless files to the RSP will it decode it? Also, I have not figured how to send it the data yet .....
Anyone else have this problem? When I turn on the 1069 and source is hdmi and dtv receiver it comes up 2 channel pcm as default. If the tv station is in dolby digital 5.1 the 1069 still plays in 2 channel pcm.I either have to change channels on the dtv receiver a few times to get it to go to DD 5.1 and...
I have connected a Panasonic blu ray player model 35 to my system consisting of a rotel 1069 a/v switcher HDMI equipped with version 1.1.
The player is connnected via HDMI to enable me to recieve the most current surround formats from dolby and dts.
By chance I changed the audio...
