    pre/amp/cd for 805s; Rotel?

How would the following system suit the 805s for music only:

    Rotel 1082 pre
    Rotel 1072 cd
    Rotel 1080 amp

    Cheers

    SE,

That would be an excellent 2 channel system. I've had the 1072 and 1080 at one point. Both were very good performers. Really excellent performance for the money.

    Hope this helps.

I agree with htsteve: FOR THE MONEY that would be excellent performance.

I for one believe those speakers benefit from better amplification. I used to have CM4 + RB1080 + RC1070 + RCD1072 and moved to 804s and thought the 1080 sounded harsh, as compared to what I heard at my dealer's with McIntosh. Soon thereafter I bought an MC275 and love it. A lot better than the 1080, even on the bass department, which was a surprise considering it's a 2x75 W per channel tube amp vs. a 2x200 W per channel SS amp.

Bottom line: if I were you I would get the 805s. Be aware, though, those are resolving speakers and the tweeters might reveal the 1080 limiations.

Down the road you might want to consider adding a sub as well, eg REL Storm or JL F112 (more expensive).

My two cents. Hope it helps.

I agree that the RB1080/RC1082 would be a good enough for the 805s but having heard the N805 with both similar Rotel amps then with higher end Musical Fidelity with the Rotel there is a little harshness that the N805 really revealed.

I would say that B&W would match the Rotel kit with CM and 700 series (and lower) where as the 800 series (even 805) really need amps of the Classe level.

It all depends what level your budget is. The rotel is great for the money, but the beat of the 805 is only revealed with higher end kit.

          Hi folks,
I'm planing a replacement strategy for my beloved B&W DM 602S2. I will go for a pair of B&W 805S which I had the pleasure to hear a few weeks ago (absolutely stunning!).

My biggest concern is now if my electronics will be sufficent to drive the 805S. For monetary...

          Rotel to McIntosh
          by RotelGuy
Hi, I have some Rotel equipment and been very happy with them. I always like the meters and lights and build quality of the McIntosh looks. I've read forums where people say that McIntosh is out of Rotel's leauge and McIntosh is far better and superior. This sent me down a path of really wanting...

          HI All,
I’m in the midst of an experiment. The HT system I am currently putting together is for my bedroom. It’s now mostly finished and I must say it sounds very good. Here is the essence of the experiment.

Can I use a good bookshelf speaker (the 805S) and a good subwoofer...

I'm planning on upgrading my speakers from the B&W 683's to the 804S'. i currently own rotel's RSX-1058, RC-1082, RB-1080, RCD-1072. now i like to listen to all sorts of music. but the most taxing on my 1080 would have to be psychedelic trance (oforia, atomic pulse, bwicked etc). and i like it loud...
