    CM7 vs.704

    Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy home theater system and there is my options:
    first options
    front 704
    center HTM7
    back 705

    second options
    front CM7
    center CMC2
    back CM1

These speakers will be driven by new Rotel rsx-1560. My room is 4m x 5m and 2 chanel music is very important to me. What do you think which speaker (CM7 or 704) is better for music?
I've heard CM7 with Rotel Ra 1062 and I like it, but my local dealer has no 704 so I can't compare them.
I'd like to hear your thoughts particulary of you who had an opportunity to hear them both.
    Thanks

Invest a bit more money and get 703.. It's much much better then CM7 or 703 specialy for Stereo.

Also if u are able get the 805s. I was in same boat as u few months ago, and i have a chance to have at home in same time 683, CM7, 703, 804s, 805S and 803s.

After many days of testing i was thinking between 703 and 805s. Between those two i picked 805s (I prefered 805s compared to 804s and 703). At the end i got 803s with HTM3S.

I suggest u to spend a bit more money and think between 703 and 805s. If u like more punch, more dynamic, and if u listen R'N'R music then go for 703. If u like less punch but more sofisticated, if u listen classic or jazz, go for 805s

    greetings

Wow, Specialised your listening room must have been full of speakers - I have never heard of a dealer being so generous - that would be most of his floor stock you had in your living room.

What were you running the speakers on and what is your room like?

I definitely liked the 805s when I compared them to 804s on a Meridien GO8/Electocompaniet setup with transparent cables(If I recall correctly), and I think my 800 dealer would agree with your final choice. i went 804s but it would be fun to borrow all those speakers just to make double sure I did make the right choice :T Maybe throw in a 800D to set the bar properly.

This is all a bit out of the original posters price range however. For some we may as well be talking about 800D or Signature Diamond as a better alternative to 704.
      Mac 8gb SSD Audirvana ->Weiss INT202 firewire interface ->Naim DAC & XPS2 DR->Conrad Johnson CT5 & LP70S-> Vivid B1s. Nordost Valhalla cables & resonance management. (Still waiting for Paul Hynes PS:M)
      Siamese

As first i have 683 together with CM7 and 703. Then i return 683 becouse i definitly didnt like them.. Then continued to listen CM7 vs 703. Get back CM7. Got 804s together with 703. Return back 804s becouse i prefered 703. Then 703 and 805s in same time. And i got 803s from a friend to compare in same time with 703 and 805.

        So i ordered 803s

        My room is 5.5m x 3.8m + opening about 7 square meters.

And here is the picture from last audition 805 next to 803 and 703.
And other one is few days before while i had just 805.

        Greetings

        Darko

p.s. 704 is great speaker, but when u spend that money better to spend a bit more for 703 or 805 and i would even wait to listen new CM9. Becouse if u get 704 and u listen later 703/805/CM9, im sure at the end would cost more to upgrade

        greetings

I tried And i miss lower bass.. Also when i compare them next to 803s, 803s sounded cleaner and better, so that's why my final decision was 803s, and few days ago i get HTM3S to finish setup for HT as well. All the testing i done was in stereo, becouse it's more important to me then HT.

I would say that 805s is best speaker in room up to 15-16 square metters.

I dont wanted to listen 803D, becouse i wanted to put a line somewhere
Maybe i was able to spend a bit more money for D, but i readed that for them there is need for much bigger power amp then for 803S. So i found out that if go for 803D, that would cost much much more money.. Difference 803s and 803D, then Htm3s and HTM2D and plus ultra expensive electronics

So 803s satisfy me, and i think i'll have them for many years. If i ever change my living place for bigger living room, i'll get 802D.

I heard the 703, CM7 and 683 on the same equipment (Rotel RMB-1075 and RSP-1570)and material.

I thought the 703 is much better than the CM7: Bigger soundstage, more detail, better bass, pretty much everything is better.

I even like the 683 better than the CM7 because the bass was more precise and defined than the CM7. CM7 bass was kind of muffled for me and has a sound somewhat Dynaudio like. However, the CM7 was new and not yet broken in.

About 703 we have same thoughts. But after few days of listening 683 next to CM7, i found out that 683 is non controlled with a lot of bass but not in good way . CM7 was more shy, but at least more sofisticated. I would never buy 683, and i think that even 685 is better sounding speaker.

Wait for the new CM9, before buying anything.
They should be out in January.I am waiting to hear the CM 9 as well.
I have had the 703,683 and CM7 at home to try out and I come to this conclusion. The 703 has by far the best bass, but a bit to forward in mid/treble for my taste. The 683 had the most coherent sound but somethings where off, couldn't say what. The CM had the best sounding treble and a good full bass, but it doesn't go deep and the midrange is not good at all(shouting).
I have this Rotel setup.:RSP1098,RDV1092,RCD1072,RT1080 and RB1072 with all AudioQuest cables.
I truly hope that the new CM9 is a blend of all the good things in the above mentioned speakers
