Upgrade CDM7NT to 804S

Hi Guys,
I am thinking about upgrading my CDM7NT's to 804S as fronts. I use these for 50/50 Music and HT. I have a Krell Kav250a, so power should not be a problem on the 804's. I have found a local consumer selling these for around $2200. Do you think this is a decent deal? I am looking for a fuller sound in 2 channel and more bass in HT. I think these should fit the bill. Any thoughts?

Nice Bully, how old is he/she? Mine is 1.5 years.

No sub yet, thinking about a PV1 or SVS down the road.

I'd recommend getting the sub first. It's a must-have for HT, and it might alleviate your concerns about the 7NTs. If not, you can always get good deals on 804s on audiogon.

I do not like to use a sub in 2 channel. I will get a sub for HT use but I think the 804's will be ok without a sub. That is my goal.

Just curious as to why? I use an ASW675 with my 1NTs in a 11x10 room, corssover set to 70, and it sounds incredible to my ears. Plus, using the sub saves extra juice for my Mac's amp (which is nice considering how power-hungry B&W speaks can be).

I'm not trying to talk you out of the 804s. If I could afford to get them I would. But I really think you're missing out on the HT experience without a sub. The ".1" LFE just simply can't be reproduced by all except the most high end of speakers.

I just think that a full range speaker sounds a bit better with most music. For HT, I agree 100%. I used to have a small sub and integrated it well. I may in the future use a sub in 2 channel, but integration is the key, placement, crossover etc. Do you keep your bully away from your speakers? Mine likes to chew on the wires sometimes.

First of all, at 2200 they sound like a great deal.

A sub is a must, unless you play music that does not involve the kickdrum. I like a pure stereo mode for my music listening, so I have my sub hooked up to a set of pre-L+R outputs so that no digital processing is involved in my music playback. I belive the 804S goes down to 38hz, but a decent sub will go to 25 or even lower and that makes a big difference, and not just with movies.

Thanks for your input. I know a sub is inevitable in my system. I like the PV1, but I think it is too overpriced. An SVS may be in my future.

I made an appointment with a local B&W dealer today ad spent a good 1.5 hours with the 804S. I brought a lot of demo CD's and the speakers were set up for me in a nice 2 channel environment, all being run by a Musical Fidelity system (P5 I think) Amp was 300 watts plus a Richard Gray power center.

In a nut shell, I was a bit disappointed. The highs were smoother than my 7NT's and bass was deeper, but not worth double the price IMHO. I think the speakers were not broken in all the way yet. The salesman told me there were about 60 hours on them. They seemed a bit boxed in. I liked the sound a lot, but at no time was I blown away. Could have been a lot of factors, maybe the amp was laid back for my tastes.

I also demoed A Focal speaker at $7500/Pair at another dealer. These were awesome. Really stood out.

I guess that ever since I listened to the Sonus Faber Cremona's, it has been down hill from there. Those were my favorite to date at $8000/Pair. Damn this hobby.

804s in europe = chf. 6700 = $ 5350.- ca , center????

sub B&W pv1 i think too is a great sub :T (europe chf. 2390 = $ 1900 ca. SVS i don't where is possible to buy but i think is more expensive as the PV1!!!
