Well my my Mark Levinson 390S CD player has arrived. I switched from using the Ayre D1XE CD/DVD transport and Levinson 360S dac for a Cd player.
Preamp ML 326S to a pair of Monoblocks ML 436's to power the 802D's.
All I can say is WOW .............
Even though the Ayre is a all in one $10,000 DVD/CD player it does not compare with a Dedicated Cd player like the ML 390S.
What a pleasure to the ears. More presence, the timbre wow, mids pop out overall detail to boot. Now the 802D's sing like never before.
It could be that now everything is pure Mark Levinson going to B&W that the combo is pure.
I think you can pick a Brand and go with it for their sound ie: All Krell or All Classe etc etc
For me All Levinson hits the spot ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x(
I'm listening as I'm writing to Beethovens 9th in D Minor by Leopold Stokowski Decca recordings 1964-1975 Vol. 2 "Original Masters" and the recording quality over the brand new 390S and 802D's is outstanding.
Imagine after it breaks in .........
