    hi all,

just curious if there are any plans or rumours of b&w updating the 804's any time soon?

not sure how old the model is and what the typical life of b&w speakers are between model changes?

    cheers,

    julie

A quick check of the history of this forum will show you how old they are. There was alot of excited chat on this forum at the time.

The current series are still pretty new as they were not out in Australia when I bought my 705s in 2004. It was only last year that they picked up all the awards (a good way of determining speaker age as they tend to get them at the start of the models life).

B&W keep their models for some time so I would guess it will be quite a few years before the 804s are updated. There is no sign of updating either the 700 series (which were around for about a year before the 800s) or the 600 series 3 which are about 2 years older again. This is all rough guestimates based on my past research which is getting a little rusty.

I am similar as I don't like to buy at the end of a models life unless I am getting a real bargain. I think you can buy with confidence. High end speakers are not like budget electronics that get revised each year.

Oh and "Go the soccer-roos" - sorry, could not help that moment off topic
    Mac 8gb SSD Audirvana ->Weiss INT202 firewire interface ->Naim DAC & XPS2 DR->Conrad Johnson CT5 & LP70S-> Vivid B1s. Nordost Valhalla cables & resonance management. (Still waiting for Paul Hynes PS:M)

      Julie,
I believe that with the Intoduction of the S series and the fading of the N series was B&W's updating strategy.
I would believe that B&W would want to reap all the benefits out of this new series before they implement new technology into any of their speakers. B&W are doing major R&D ,but will not add anything new until profits come in.
You can see the new improvments in their NEW D series as an example. Therefore, B&W will not add any improvments until they get some CASH back on thier R&D investment. It's all about Money!!!!
Models in speakers change around every 7 years if that series was a success!!!!!! Sometimes models take 10 years before changes are implemented ,but with NEW technology changing every day, I would think B&W will add a few Nic-Nac's here in there probably In the D series first ,and trickle the technology down to the lower end series once the price of the improvement goes down. ( high end speakers change very slowly due to the high prices one pays)!!!!!!!!!!
      Yup!!!!! Go Soccerooooooooos!!
      BUT.............ARGENTINA CAMPEON DEL MUNDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but with few details other than the replacement of some - mostly unmentioned - internal components.

About 3 years ago I researched reliability and malfunction problems in medium price CD players , and found a report of a Rotel player where the owner had complained of deterioration of sound quality over a not particually long term of use (I've forgotten how long , but it wasn't many years) .
