    Speaker grille protection

Since I received my 803,s I was worried that my grille will get damaged when my theatre gets vacuumed. (ie. knocked at the bottom)

When I had my new kitchen fitted there were some offcuts of granite. That gave me the idea to use this to make "stands" for the speakers. It works great and looks classy to.

    Kobus,

Nice look to the speakers but........

The only comment might be that you should put you speakers on spikes as you will have a better sound. Also The rug will be crushed in a circle if you ever move them and you will have a huge round flat area.

Spikes would make "pinholes" in the rug that you won't see and improve sound quality.

I know the spikes do work for sound and performance, but they dont raise the speakers high enough to stop them from being knocked by the vacuum cleaner. I am working on a plan to put the granite on spikes.

Or the spikes on Granite with cups would probably work better too.

Lovely idea Kobus - what are your plans for the HTM?

Will you raise it - it looks very vulnerable on the floor there. :E

BTW wherebaouts are you in Cape Town?

I have a piece of granite for the htm, but not sure what to do with it.
All around the front of the room I made this step thing, about 30cm (1 foot) deep. I made this for looks really, without thinking about my centre speaker. At the moment the centre is standing on this "step". The problem is that the step is to narrow for a propper stand and I do not really want to bring the centre to much forward.

            Caleb, I stay in Durbanville.

spikes from 804's going through carpet to floor
                    by SPACEMANRICK
I moved my 804 speakers from their spot on my area rug and noticed that the spikes had gone through the rug and put some small holes into my hardwood floor. I had my speakers previously on my area rug sitting on top of quarters but they seemed too unstable on top of the coins.

                    Is there...

                    Granite???
                    by Freddie40
Has anyone used granite under their speakers? Did you also use spikes under the granite/between the speakers and granite?

Is the sound better using granite versus just spikes? Any details will help.

                    Thanks,

                    Dave

                    by Eliav
                    Hi
I have recently noticed some grainy highs with the metal spikes on.
The 803s are two weeks old, driven by a rotel 1095/ 1068 processor/ 1060 dvd.I use audioquest copperhead interconn. and speaker cables.
Since my room floor is covered with a very thin rug, i started with the...

Exchange Granite Baffles for test results
                    by richnen
As many of you know I am currently building some Statement Monitors using granite. I think I can get the price of granite baffles down to a reasonable price but need to know that they work well acoustically. I think the speakers I have made sound great but need some hard test results.

my plan was to put these brilliant babies in birch enclosure- and i've already found the material for extremely cheap here in china- 5'x8' .75" sheet of birch ply for 135 yuan- roughly $19. and was to commission the build tomorrow at a furniture factory. however after hooking up the drivers bare,...
