is it worth getting the wifey mad????

I am finally set to receive my new 804S this Friday! I have been without music from my main setup for 2 weeks! Being without music is worse than being without you know what for 6 months from my very pregnant wife (ok not really). My problem is I have plans to attend the wedding of my wife's best friend on Friday so we wont be home until Sunday. First of all, who has wedding on a Friday?? So I am seriously contemplating ditching the wedding in order to be home and receive the speakers. I cant wait to hook them up! Needless to say the wifey will be VERY mad if I skip out on this wedding. But I am tempted though in spite of the wrath I will incur for months to come!

Realistically, i dont have much of a chance of not attending the wedding but the very fact that I am thinking about says something about this addiction I have to this crazy hobby.....decisons decisions.....

I feel for you buddy. I am very fortunate in that my wife lets me do just about anything. You would be amazed at all the functions and family gathers I have been able to weasel out of. My wife is the best to say the least.

Weddings are a different story though. Recently I lost my dad and than a month later a man who whose like a second father to me growing up. We had a wedding to go to the day after the funeral of the "second father" and even I couldnt get out of that.

Maybe you could say if this is the only time you can get them, otherwise you will have to wait a few more weeks and that just cant happen. Or you could give your self food poisoning. Going to weddings that are not your immediate friends/family is no fun. Luckily I got to skip out the last wedding of one my wife's friends. Good Luck.

Just go to the wedding... it's only delaying the pure bliss by a day or two...

Besides, if your wife is laying down a wrath of explitives on you... you're not going to be able to hear your new speakers.

Wait the day or two and then completely enjoy them without any of the b*****ing.

The first few days are the worst anyway, since you'll need a couple hundred hours break in. You won't be delaying sonic bliss too long.

Have a friend watch your house while you are gone and have them receive the speakers... Then play with them on the weekend!

Go to the wedding man, than, claim your time with the 804. The very first days with them may be frustrating, it will NOT sound as you may expect.besides, It will be hard to endure both wife's anger and speakers anxiety !

Right choice, from a man who has been married for 25 yrs. Keep the wife happy and upgraditis will be easier.

Sad thing is your body will be at the wedding but your mind will be elsewhere! For better or worse ( pun intended ) marriage is all about give and take. She let you get the speakers so you need to give her the day.

Go to the wedding, but tell her that you are going to the wedding with her because you love her instead of playing with your new speakers right away. That should give you some points if you see what I mean

The primary reason you need to attend the wedding is to not sour her attitude towards your audio hobby. There's lots of upgrades to be had in the months and years to come. You'll need to build up brownie points now so you can get that Mcintosh amp for your 804's.

jim777 and jeff: excellent ways of looking at it...its all about manipulating her and the situation so that I get to continue spending ridiculous amounts of money on this crazy hobby...I love it!!!!! heck, I am so excited that I am looking forward to the next wedding. let me see...if i get this new paradigm right, Wedding = new amp, birthday party = new cables, family gathering = new speakers, coed wedding shower = whole new setup! its a new world order. i see the light. once again thank you to this forum for opening my eyes!!!!

hey tboooe, i wouldn't give up setting up those babies myself for the world! i love opening brand new, sealed boxes. ahh, the smell of fresh cardboard and styrofoam

also, i get nervous when other people are touching my speakers

while at the wedding, try to find a fellow audio enthusiast and chat away. enjoy your last chances of going out, cause once your new baby is born, you will have plenty of time enjoying the indoors. (proud father of 2 myself.)

                          congrats and all the best!

Tommy, you forgot to mention a set of quality headphones which is what you'll be needing when you have a new baby in the house.

No here is a man who has a grasp on what women are about ! :T Think of it as a game of chess.

If you let her see you "obsessing" about spending time and money and then starting to ignore family functions, then it will only be harder in the future for every step you want to make.

Show Her you are reasonable and take card of family business. In your mind's eye, you can enjoy the wait a little longer, as it will extend the moment of gratification longer. Part of the enjoyment is ANTICIPATION too. :dothewave:

Be a man and do NOT skip a wedding. And let her know YOU do it for HER. And who knows one day she might start buying audio stuff for you. As birthday presents. Just let her know what you really want. That is manipulating. Or is it called dreaming?

Well, Nigel, I see an attempt at further PROGRESS has been made regarding voting rights in New Zeeland:

A Jack Russell in New Zealand has become a registered voter after his owner filled in a form on his behalf.

Wellington - It was almost inevitable New Zealand's election would turn into a dog fight when you look at one of the country's 2.83 million voters - Toby the Jack Russell terrier.

Toby became a registered voter when his owner, Peter Rhodes of Queenstown, completed an enrolment form in the dog's name, giving his occupation as "rodent exterminator" and his age as 28.

He signed the form with a squiggle and Toby's paw print before returning it to the Electoral Enrolment Centre, the Otago Daily Times reported.

Rhodes, an aviation safety specialist who said he was making a humorous point about local government bureaucracy, was shocked to receive written confirmation of Toby's enrolment in the Otago electorate on New Zealand's South Island.

Voting is not compulsory in New Zealand and Rhodes said Toby had elected not to vote.

"The only roll he's interested in is a dog roll, not the electoral roll," Rhodes told the paper.

Electoral Enrolment Centre manager Murray Wicks was more angry than amused that an application filed by a dog had slipped through the centre's checking system.

"It's an offence, and whoever's done it will be in the hands of the police," he said.

Wicks said Rhodes could be charged with misleading a registrar of electors, making a fraudulent enrolment and making a false declaration, "to name a few" possible charges.
