What's the matter, speaker smells fishy from too much "bass"...?

       :B

      Seriously though...

Do not accept a money order or any cashier's cheques etc IMO. (Believe me, I know  )

Paypal or an envelope stuffed with cash that you've confirmed with your bank isn't funny money before shipping anything. That's it.

ya figured it had a little bit of the fishy scent. I've heard that even with PayPal, the buyers can dispute those purchases by claiming that they never made that purchase and they can take the money back from the seller months later.

          Blazemaster,
I have an internet business and this sounds like a scam. next they will tell you that they are buying for a client and you will get a check for more than the amount. That you should pay them the difference only "after" you have been paid. Only its with a bad credit card that hasn't been reported. You get the money but it takes 3 months for them to take it back from the stolen credit card. Mean while you've sent money and they cashed it out. Avoid buyers from Indonesia and Asia and Africa. You can send me info if you want advice.

          Best
          Bruce

BlazeMaster, that definitely look fishy to me. I sold a bunch of stuff through Craig's List and have encountered similar "lines" many times. The way I see it, people who want to buy second hand stuff online are not going to spend the time to write such an elaborate email (with such formality) discussing about payment. People care more about whether the unit still works. To me, these emails look so canned that I don't even bother to read them and simply delete them.

            Good luck!

lol, stoopid ScAmMmMmer...these bastards really waste one's time on eBay - if you listed with a BUY IT NOW option and they "buy" it you have to re-list and go through the whole rigmarole of getting credit back from eBay etc. which is painful and very annoying - they also get your damn details when they "opt" to pay you immediately afterwards!

I read about some scammer a little while ago that got reverse-scammed by the seller - the seller caught onto the scam and sent this guy a hilarious home made Apple laptop made out of hardboard and convinced him to pay a big whack of the import duty on it (i.e. duty on a real one) which was non-refundable...wish I could find that link again for a laugh!

I'd say let them send you the money order and tell them you won't send the unit until the money order clears... once you have the money... mwaaa ha ha ha ha.

What happens there is they send you a money order and then they say that they over paid, oops! well then they say just send back the amount of the overpayment. Well a few days later, you get a call from the bank telling you that you cashed a fake money order and you end up eating it. Stay away, run!!

It seems like everyone agrees with me...ya...i'm in the process of avoiding her/him. Be careful though guys, this is from a post off Audiogon, that means the scammers know about Audiogon. Sell/buy carefully next time

The scammers know about A-gon, ebAy etc... typically they are non members replying to ads, or they are members and use their membership just to gain information where to email you. These are not stupid people. Granted, they are usually people with broken sounding english in a real conversation, but they are slimy smart.

Always avoid having contact info in the post itself, make them come through the system to get your email address, this deters some of this. They seek the posts with public info so they go slithering through the Agon system without even being a part of it.

well I've gotten several different "users" like this trying to contact me every time I have something over $1000 listed. And each time it's with a different user name, so I doubt giving you guys the user name would help at all. Like Lex said, they are usually people with broken English and they never really seem to care about the condition that the gear is in, always trying to get your physical address and are usually non-members from A'gon or V'gon. Those are the things that I'd avoid from now on.
