    Placement of the HTM1

I have an HTM1 on loan from the dealer to go with my N802's. I was hoping to place the speaker on top of the TV with a special stand which I would mfr.
It's my hope to get center speaker off the floor and out of the way. I will add the speaker appears HUGE when sitting on the TV. Kind of unnatural looking. 8O

When placing the HTM1 just below my Sony 51 inch wide screen picture the sound is perfect. When placing it on top there is a lot of information missing when your in the sitting position. When you stand up the image returns. Also, when the speaker was on top, the audio didn't appear to come from the screen as naturally as it did when the HTM1 was mounted below the screen. The sound came from above the picture.

Has anyone found this to be the case? I'm thinking when I mfr my set top stand the tilt forward will need quite a bit. Perhaps 20 degrees plus or minus.
Given my situation I cannot experiement with a large tilt.

The image is much better when your axis of listening is above the tweeter than below.

    Thanks

    Jeff,

I had my HTM1 on top of my old 60" Mits (lots of room on top of that TV - non HDTV). At the time that I purchased it, I did not get a stand, but bought one 5 months after getting my HTM1. I didn't use the stand for about another 6 months, I was saving it for when I would finally get a projector, but I was finding that the dialog in movies wasn't what I was expecting out of that speaker, especially after reading how good a center channel it was supposed to be. I didn't want to place it on the floor, because I have a fairly small room, and I didn't want to give up more floor space. I finally broke down, moved the TV 6 inches back, and put the speaker on my B&W stand. I chose the better of the two angles the stand offered. What a difference!! The dialog was much clearer, and seemed to now come from the center of the TV and not from the top. I wondered why I waited so long!!

Anyway, Now I have replaced my huge old MITS with a Samsung HDTV. It of course has no place on top for a speaker of any kind, so I am glad I have my HTM1 one the floor. I have adjusted to the speaker on the floor, even thought initially it looked out of place, but I like it there now.

Here are a couple of photos of my old TV with the HTM1 on top of the TV. Check out my current set-up with the link in my signature.

Whatever centre speaker you have it should ideally sit so that the information coming from the FST and Tweeter is on a level with your ears.

A compromise is to angle the speaker so that this happens.

The B&W stand can be tilted up about 15%. I used to do this with my HTM2.

          Thanks everyone for replying.

I think the ultimate placement will be on a stand sitting in front of the tv. Based upon my tests of placing the HTM1 on top of and below the screen
those who place it on top of are loosing a bit of information. If I make the
purchase (it's very likely) I don't see myself settling for a placement which
is second best. Especially since there is no women in the house to give me
a hard time on the initial shock of this sitting in front of the tv.

          thanks

            Hi all,
