Hey Guys..
First, please bear with me if I forget any pertinent details or sound completely ignorant (first surround system and first ever post on a chat board)
After much “lurking” on this board and researching manufacturer’s specifications and prices I am (at this point in time before your advice) leaning towards the following system for my house that is to be completed in about a month and a half.
Room Size - 13.5’ x 13.5’ with an extra 2.5’ of recessed area (wall to be designed after components and speakers are chosen)
Listening – 95% Direct T.V. & Movies, 5% Music
Speakers – Researched Jamo (I liked the Concert D8 Series, however it was a little too much $ and confusing for me to figure out proc. and amps with mixing 4 & 8 Ohms), Paradigm (o.k. but wasn’t impressed overall), Boston (want more), Def. Tech. (See Paradigm), and B&W (overall impressed with sound, website usefulness, and seemingly good quality)
B&W 600 Series 3
Center – LCR600 S3 (Max. 150 Watts)
Fronts – DM604 S3 (Max. 200 Watts)
Surround – CDS6 S3 (Max. 100 Watts)
Sub – ASW 675 (possibly too much for this system?)
Equipment – I started out looking at receivers like Integra, Yamaha, Pioneer Elite, & Denon, however, the separates intrigued me. Thought about Outlaw Seperates (less money), Rotel (good reviews sold me)
Pre/Pro and Amp
Rotel Amp – RMB 1075 (120W x 5) or RMB 1095 (200W x 5)
Rotel Pre/Pro – RSP-1068
O.K. with all this said, the following are my questions/concerns
(1) Would the RMB1075 provide enough power to the Fronts? If so then my decision is made, if not is the RMB 1095 overkill? (could it possibly damage my other speakers?) (Also is this too “lopsided” in regards to money for amp & proc. Vs. money for speakers)
(2) Salesman talked me out of 7.1 System because of the room size and the fact that my seats will be practically be on the back wall. Is this good advice?
(3) Working with a limited budget, I am trying to maximize my money. Does this appear to be a good “bang for your buck” system maintaining quality? If not, please recommend other B&W options/configurations to research.
(4) Like I stated above, this is my first surround system. Do you think I am headed in the right direction? Any major amateur mistakes?
I know that I’ve thrown a lot at you guys but thanks in advance for educating this uninformed construction worker in a subject that seems to be so complex. GA.
