Are 802's overkill for a room that is 14' wide by 24' deep and I sit 13' from the speakers? I mostly listen at moderate volumes.

I would say they are not overkill. I have N802's (not the new 802D's), and my room is 13.5' wide by 17.5' deep. Mind you this is a family room, and one side opens up to the kitchen with a 4' pony wall, and one end has an open walkway to the living room, so it is not an enclosed.
I listen at a moderate to loud level (90dB).

Dan which amp and how many watts per channel is driving your 802s? I'm wondering if the Rotel 1070 (130 watts) or 1080 (200 watts) will do it?Originally posted by Dan Schulzeturbokuo,

i know i wasnt asked, sorry for butting in, but i have a few customers that use the 1080, and it works VERY well. i was surprised when we hooked it up. it was supposed to be a temporary budget solution, but it turned out to be MUCH better than the $4k classe amp. i would drop the extra money over the 1070 though, those 802s are hungry little guys.- Bottom

I use Bryston's. For the 802's I use 7B SST's (600W monoblocks). For the HTM1 and the 805 surrounds I use the 6B SST (300W/channel - 3 channel). For the 805 rears, I currently use an Anthem MCA 50 (180W/channel - 5 channel). I am only using two of the 5 channels. I am planning to get a Bryston 4B SST (300W/channel - 2 channel) for the rears. (I need to update my web-site photos to reflect my current configuration.)
Before the Bryston's, I was using the Anthem for all 5 speakers I had at the time (2-802's, an HTM1, and 2-805's). Although the sound was very good from the 802's (mind you they were not broken in yet) they seemed like they were wanting more - hungry fellows! Once I got the Bryston 7B SST's, the mid range was tamed a bit (wasn't as 'harsh' sounding), and the bass was tighter.
I echo Cowanrg's suggestion of the 1080. As much power as you can give the 802's!! :B

B&W 805 Signature vs. 802
Hello all,
I'm looking for some feedback on the prospect of upgrading from 805 Signatures to B&W 802. I think what I'm most interested in are opinions around how different they sound, what types of music will sound better or worse on the 802, characteristics of the 805 Signature that the 802 can't replicate well, etc.
Because I'm in the process of looking for a new place to live, let's leave room size and shape out of the equation. Same for amplification - let's assume for the purpose of this exercise that I have amplication adequate for the 802.
I already understand that the 802 will offer better bass response, and may eliminate the need for a subwoofer (which the 805 Sig still needs for rock music), so we can skip that particular angle.
My local dealer has no more 802 in stock, so demoing them is not possible - I'd be buying a set of used 802's. Until I can find someplace to listen to them, the advice of the people on this board would be apreciated.
Thanks all,
BCGator- Bottom

by beden1I have the opportunity to purchase a used pair of 802's, and had recently been focusing on getting a pair of 802Ds that I had been auditioning in a B&W dealer store. I have not heard the 802s to compare.
I really like the 802Ds as the highs and mids sound very articulate to me, and...-

by tmtFirst of all my apologies! This is a question about amps - preamps, maybe I should have post this in the audio hideout forum, but since Classe seems to go together with B&W speakers I'll post it in this group.
note: all prices I mention are in euro, but you can substitute it for dollar....-
