    normal impedance

A quick question regarding impedance. The specs for the 804s list the Normal Impedance as 8ohms (minimum 3). My Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi claims a continuous output of 110w per channel at 8ohms. The 56TXi can also be set to either output at 6 or 8 ohms. The Pioneer manual doesn't go into any detail in regards to this setting. It simply states that if you are using speakers w/ an impedance of less than 8 ohms set the receiver to 6 ohms. I've been set at 8, but since the 804 specs claim a minimum of 3, today I switched the receiver to 6 to see if there was a noticeable difference. After switching back and forth several times I find a little more seperation and clarity at the 6 ohm setting. I assume that the receiver is producing more wattage at 6 ohms, but beyond that it's all metaphysics. Any enlightenment would be welcome. IS there a reason that I shouldn't run the receiver at 6 ? Or in the world of give and take, what am I giving up at 6?

    Regards Herb

    Dayton 3 Way Impedance Question
    by Lurkalot
    Hi,

After a mere 2 years since I bought the drivers, I have finally completed the Dennis Murphy Dayton 3 way towers this past weekend, and hooked them up to my Yamaha RX-V4600 A/V Receiver. The receiver does have a 8/6 Ohm adjustment, and the manual is particular about this setting. I...

6 ohms speaker on Rotel amp?
    by Brian482
First post on forums, been looking at them for a while though ^^

I'm currently looking into finally buying my gear and am looking at Rotel components and my speakers I'm thinking about are rated at 6 ohms. I heard from someone at work who has the same type of speakers with a Pioneer Elite...

Also I've read an interesting article:

    "If you hear something of
an "8 ohm amplifier", then we think usually of 8 ohm speakers.

Exploring Common DIY Terminology - Nominal Impedance

    Nominal Impedance

Nominal impedance is a manufacturer specification commonly used to describe the average or approximate electrical impedance of a loudspeaker or individual driver. It is usually represented by a single value, such as 4 ohms or 8 ohms. For consumer audio, the nominal impedance indicates the most difficult average load a loudspeaker presents to an amplifier under normal operating conditions and is used to match the speaker to the amplifier's output impedance. For designing...

I have posted this questions on other reputable forum sites. Thought I'd try this one, too. I appreciate everyone's efforts in helping me solve this problem.

I have a Yamaha RXV 2400 that I am using to drive the following 7.1 speaker system:
