    New to HTGuide.Com (Larger Pics!!!)

Hi, I've been visiting the site for a month or so now but have just joined since I didn't have anything to post. I have just moved to my new place and have finally setup "phase 1" of my theatre setup.

    Here's my list:

    Samsung 46" 8500 series
    Yamaha DSP-A1 Integrated Amp
    Oppo BDP-83
    Parasound D/AC-1000
    Parasound HCA-1200 amp
Rotel RLC-900 (I think) Line Conditioner
    B&W DM604's, CC6 (2nd gen) and 601's (1st gen)
    Apple TV-40gb
Mac Mini w/5.5 TB containing almost 700 DVDs, itunes library and other
    media
AQ Diamondbacks, Straightwire and AQ Rocket 88 bi-wire (fronts)
    AQ XT (rears)

After calibration and configuration, I finally got the sound back to where I "remembered" it from a few years ago. Had been using my 601's for the past 4 years while the 604's sat in storage.

Solaris, It looks like nothing is connected with any wires showing, like a speaker ad. All you need is a bowl of fruit on the cabinet. Very nice!

Real Traps in my mind are the gold standard for acoustics panels/treatment. These are the ones I use and they make a huge improvement. :T

Ready Acoustics are another option, they seem to be a little more bang for the buck.

Levair1968, Your system looks amazing, THX certified equipment, love it! Only concern I have is... no Subwoofer? and the center speaker being so low. I remember when Yamaha and Pioneer ELITE used to make receivers with side wood panels...yeah those were the days. :B

                    Solaris,

                    Very nice set-up. Ultra clean.

As for acoustic treatments, the simplest one to do would be a rug in front of the speakers. That should cut down on the 'ringing' sound.

For additional treatments, I agree on the Real Traps. I've used those as well with very nice results.

                    Hope this helps.

I've seen that your table is very close to the central speaker and (probably) you don't have a direct view from your coach. I'm thinking about buying system but I have the same problem so I'd like to ask you if you hear fine the central channel.

                          Thank you.

CM serie is really aa good job from B&W :T

I need a carpet and other poer get the most of your system
(with $.100.- your sound go in great depth direction, with more "hot" sensation..)

this is sure. A carpet give a good a very brst sound.

with a little investiment your room give you a great surprise.

Your setup is music to the "eyes"! How do you like those CM series speakers? I heard from a dealer that they had some real good sound for their price and level.

                                    Hi Isaac!

Thanks for the banging comment! Yeah, about the subwoofer, I've never had one! Most of the time I've been in an apartment as I am now, so the 604's provided all the bass I really needed to keep me from being evicted (LOL). I'm also a jazz aficionado so I'm more concerned about not muddying up the low end too much by adding one, although to be quite honest I do more jazz music in stereo than multi-channel. I designed my partner's system back in the mid 90's and chose the M&K sub to go with his KEF's (not my choice (KEFs), he regrets it now (LOL)). As for the center, yeah, I feel you, form actually won over function this time but I think the 30 degree elevation will suffice. Hey, I'd like to see your system. Gotta link?

Man, you're fast! (smile). Thanks for the quick reply. Right on! I like, especially those 805's! Man, I've been wanting to upgrade to that route for years (LOL). BEAUTIFUL sounding speakers...I've been familiar with them for years now. Question...what kind of cable are you using to bi-wire the 805s? It is certainly beautiful, I'll say that.

I've seen that your table is very close to the central speaker and (probably) you don't have a direct view from your coach. I'm thinking about buying system but I have the same problem so I'd like to ask you if you hear fine the central channel.

                                              Thank you.
                                              Hi Shyamalan!
Yes. If you notice, I have the center speaker elevated to around 30 degrees...that pretty much "clears" the coffee table. You will, however, have to calibrate your speaker after setting it up. I currently have my center elevated at about 6-8 decibels above my fronts. I also had to adjust the treble control for the center channel until I got the right mix of midrange and high-end. So its certainly feasible to setup with this type of configuration. Use your receiver/pre-amp (and amp, if it has gains per channel) to calibrate your sound for that center speaker.

Great looking system, I gotta tell ya. Love the A/V rack...have not seen one like that before. Also what kind of equipment do you have? I noticed a Rotel piece, and the pioneer plasma, and a power conditioner but whats the black box below the line conditioner? Pre-amp maybe? BTW, 805's...my favorite bookshelf!

thanks. a/v rack is my own creation. bought some solid cherry wood(2" thk) off ebay and although it took over 3months to plan and to build, i finally finished it. i almost gave up towards the end during sanding/finishing stage. idea was to try to match cherry finish of 805 on shelves but black, gloss look on uprights, like the bezel on pioneer. didn't quite get what i wanted but i'm happy, for now.

Man, you did an absolutely AMAZING job on that rack!!! I went back to look at it again, and WOW, your woodwork is impeccable. I can't imagine an equipment manufacturer NOT picking up that design. The color coordination, the edge work, spacing...GREAT job!

                                                      Hi Artv4,

I've been editing and re-editing my posts. I wanted to clarify my original post about the 700 DVDs. Actually, I have that many "online" in my database repository. Now, my mac mini can serve any of those movies to my flatpanel, my mac book pro, or my 24" iMac that sits in my bedroom...all via Frontrow. But that's only half of my library. I can't afford to keep buying terra byte hdd's (which by ripping at an avg of 4gb per movie, I'd need another 5 of those...I'm not big into converting that kind of volume to mp4 or other) for the remaining movies, so my most populars go online and everything else is "offline" in hardcopy. I know I don't have one of those super libraries that some have but I'm pushing 1400 now.

                                                      Talk to ya!

Man, I've been wanting to upgrade to that route for years (LOL). BEAUTIFUL sounding speakers...I've been familiar with them for years now. Question...what kind of cable are you using to bi-wire the 805s? It is certainly beautiful, I'll say that.

Isn't network transmission (cable or air) packet data anyway? I guess the digital stream is recreated by whatever component (squeezebox, airport express, streaming player) gets the data from the network...

So the jitter should, in theory, depend on the quality of the streaming player, digital cable, and the esoteric receiving circuits.

Anyway the Esoteric has a double PLL input circuit to eliminate jitter from the digital inputs, but of course better to remove the source of jitter rather than correcting it afterwards.

As for the cat5, not sure there is a way to run it easily... Probably I can use the same route as the telephone cable, so no AC interference, but I would end up with 15m of cable. Do I need a special cable?

I guess it's something related to the quality of the digital output circuitry, power supply and clock generator...
