Parts Express 2023 speaker design competition

Anyone planning to enter the competition or attend? I would like to attend, but need to check on a few things before I make the commit to go.

I won't be going this year, might try to attend Iowa in October, though I wouldn't be bringing anything with me.

I sort of wish I could do this someday, but you know, it's not really in my neighborhood! Even getting a small set there, like the high end 6" two way, would be a big challenge.

Depending on the date in October, that would be another fun one to attend. I go for the experience to listen, take photos, and network. I'm in Portsmouth New Hampshire the first week of October. Do you have the link to the show in October, or is it not posted yet?

Says the guy that road trips to California for the last few weekends to move stuff... I think the juice would be worth the squeeze though for you to be at the event 😉

It would be tempting to take the Isiris-MKII there. I wouldn't be too worried about how they would place in the overall ranking.

Because I took some liberties with the crossover, I'm mainly just interested in hearing what the judges (including Andrew Jones) thought about overall tonality. Whether I need to go back to the drawing board, or if I can finally solder up the crossover.

That would be awesome. I bought a ticket to fly up there now. However if you are going to drive I would split gas money with you to drive and could help you setup if you wanted.

I think it'll be in Des Moines over October 20-21st, but I'm not sure that's a hard date yet.

If I can get my latest project completed in time, I plan on being there in the under $300 category.

That would be great! Would be really nice to meet other people on this forum in person.

What is your latest project about? The last build thread I saw from you was the InDIYana 2023 build.

I was going to do a post about it today or in the next few days.

Dayton RS225-8 woofer with a Scan Speak D2604/833000 tweeter in a Monacor WG300 waveguide. It will look very similar to what I took to InDIYana, but ported and with the tweeter in a WG.

Today the Parts Express Competition starts. If you're attending I'll see you there. I'm flying in to Dayton this afternoon and will drive down to the event. I'm looking forward to seeing the build that DaveFred created for this competition along with all the other builds that will be there. I plan to bring my good camera for photos. Just look for the guy with pink hair, it's hard to miss 😂.

Funny you mention that... I did think about it doing that, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. It's been over 6 months now that it's been pink and will continue to be pink until my wife is cancer free. I should get around to updating the emoji.

Congratulations to DaveFred and dlneubec for winning in Parts Express DIY Competition 2023. Dan won 2nd and Dave won 1st in the under $300.00 category. Congratulations to the both of you and it was great getting to hear your builds live!

It was excellent getting to meet other members of the forum that were here as well.

I will have photos to upload up to the website tomorrow when I get back to my computer where I process photos.

Photos from the event. I still have more to add, but I'm trying to track down names for speakers that did not have the owner/speaker name/category. I've been trying to name the photo with the name of the speaker that way when searching it should show up in the search result...

Hey Sven! Nice to meet you, barely noticed you had pink hair, lol. I'm Eric Woodring, built the Monuments and won the over 300 class. Man what a tight field this year. I tied with Brad for first and John H and Ben tied for second. The peer ballots were the deciding factor.

So many awesome speakers this year! It's always great to get to hang out with all my speaker geek buddies and meet new ones at these events. The comradery amongst the people is second to none. Cheers to all that placed and kudos to everyone that attended.

Looking forward to the next shows as I get my next project built. 🤘🏼

                                WELCOME to HTGuide!!!

I got a couple of good photos of those winning speakers in the gallery link above.

Now that Eric has joined the forum we have another winner from the competition. Congratulations 🎉 🍾 and I loved the sound and wood working that you put into building / voicing the Monuments!

We hope to see you share your upcoming projects here on the forum.
