I use Etymotic ER-4P's for critical listening, and have done some write-ups about them here in the Guide. A search might be worthwhile. I also use their HF-5's for everyday and travel use, with custom mold earpieces. I think I've done a write-up on that experience too. Lately I use a portable headphone amp, made by Ray Samuels.

I have Future Sonics MG6 and Jerry Harvey Roxanne, both are outstanding in their pricepoint. The Future Sonics Spectrum Series G10 are fantastic non-custom molded option as well.Comment

Out of sheer curiosity , whats the big deal with headphones?
I mean really? I've seen multi thousand dollar head phones and it seems to be the craze right now. Maybe it's always been the craze and I was not in tune with it.
