I went up to Talkeetna, Alaska Sunday night for a bluegrass concert, kind of on a whim. Had heard about this group, which was mostly started in the area and has gone national.
For those who haven't heard me say it here, Alaska has had a record SEVERE winter with record snowfalls and temperatures. Spring now, and things are actually melting. Was fairly clear Sunday and took the pic. Monday was even better. This is the Denali range from Talkeetna. Tough to tell what's cloud and mountain, but Denali itself (20,320' tall and the highest point in North America) is poking through the clouds in the middle, behind the top of the tall bare birch tree there. The other peaks on the left are smaller.

After the concert, we stayed the night in this great little one-room log cabin with a loft. Had to go back to the main roadhouse to use the bathroom. (better than an outhouse!)
The group, Bearfoot, is making it on the national scene, too. Their latest album, "American Story" is well received. I picked it up at the concert, and it's worth a listen.

The concert was lots of fun. Quite Alaskan style, in a small old Don Sheldon aircraft hangar. Nice bluegrass music, nice vocals. Lead acoustic guitar (Todd on the right) and picking was really good, and Jason the mandolin player was excellent. (far right) He did a furious mandolin ripping song that was outstanding. I wish I had recorded it. Here's a snippet of one of their songs before my phone ran out of memory. Too bad it's not better quality.
