    Hiding Cables

    Hi!
I am wondering about ways to hide cables. I used to have the hollow tubes from Home Depot doing that but my Transparent cables are to thick for those. Besides they did a job on my wall when I was taking them off! So what are the options if I do not want to use them nor do I want to drill holes through the floor into my basement and then pull them up at the rear either or try and hide most of them under the rug? Thanks,
    Ray

I wouldn't try the rug unless it's in a no traffic area. Some options:
    - Tuck behind baseboards
    - Drill a hole through your top plate and fish the wire down through the attic

All I can think of right now. HTH.

Get trim that doesn't go to a point on the back side. You can get it pretty cheap something that's only 1"-2" wide or so then you can add nice trim to your room and also hide your cabled behind it. Maybe not the cheapest option but would look nice and really shouldn't be crazy expensive unless you go for extravagant trim. Although I don't see what the big deal is about drilling some small holes through to the basement

I'm assuming if you don't want to go down through the basement, you won't want to go through the attic. So, your two options are:

        - behind the baseboard and around the door trim if you have any in your pathway.
        - through the wall upwards to the very top and then add crown moulding. The gap behind the moulding should give plenty of room. Another cool thing depending on your house and room height, is to not put it tight to the ceiling. You can add some 6500K rope lighting on a dimmer and have ambient lighting along the top edge of your room.

        Good luck!

The OP said he has thick cables. I have that same dilemma about how to route my speaker cables. My best solution would be to drill four 1-inch diameter holes through a beautiful parquet floor, and route the cables through the basement. If we ever decide to sell the house, there would be those double-barrel shotgun sized holes, spoiling what is an otherwise nice floor.

Thanks. I think I am looking for too much. When I put my cables earlier using the conduits from Home Depot I did not think that if and when I need to change them they would damage the walls. So now I am being very cautious and on top of the already long list I am looking for something that can be taken down for changing the cables or moving in the future. At this point looks like I am in lala land! But thanks for the input.

So I'm (FINALLY) moving out to my own place this weekend, and my HT setup will finally get a Living Room all to itself. The problem is the room layout:

Need help with hiding and sharing cabling
              by web1
I have a media niche that has a power port, phone jack (for a DBS receiver) and two cable jacks installed by the builder. Presumably one for cable and one for satellite. Due to the location of the niche and the fact that it has a "bar top" as opposed to being connected to a wall that goes...

Any experiences working with hide glue?
              by cdwitmer
I recently subscribed to a harpsichord builder's list (HPSCHD-L) that has, as you might expect, a lot of threads concerning hide glue in its archives. I had known that hide glue is handy because at high temperatures (high relative to room temperature, that is) it softens so instruments can be disassembled....

How to. Trim veneer for speaker holes
              by KnightsOfNi
One questions asked many times on this forum is how to trim the veneer smoothly around speaker holes when the speakers are flush mounted.
The problem is, because the recesses can be as shallow as 0.100" or so, traditional flush trim bits do not work.
              So what are the options?
