    Hey everyone.
Eric (Thelonius Funk) has brought me here, so blame him.
My name is Joe, I'm 31 (soon to be 32) and from Niantic, Connecticut. I'm really into the home theater scene, but am JUST getting into it, tech stuff and so on. I've come here to learn, to be a Padawan in your temple. I'm a recovering Bose addict, so be gentle. I love everything from classical music to easy listening to soundtracks to classic rock. My movie tastes cover the gamut as well.
I'm a big ol' geek (Star Trek, Star Wars, G4TV and so on) and am anxious to meet some new people and learn.
    Thanks for having me!

You know, two freshly ground nutmegs in a glass of water will have the same affect as LSD. I read it in a medical journal.

                Hey everyone I'm new here.

Just bought a house 9 months ago after living in an apartment for 6 years (could not even use my SUB there). Finally decided to update my system with BD (just BD). One thing led to another (doesn't it always).

Bottom line is I just bought a demo Sony KDSR-50 (Brand new bulb put in a week ago) with full warranty production date of Sept. 05 from A VERY high end AV. dealer for $1000 (I should be picking it up next week) I also found a demo Yamaha RX-V2700 for $730 out the doorthe SAME day I found the set. The set has NONE of the issues spoken of in this forum. I spoke to the owner yesterday and he believes that the bad "box" or whatever you call it, was replaced on this unit.

My speakers are B&W 600 series.

The tv I'm am switching up from is a RCA F38310. I'm a little concerned under the same conditions I might be disapointed with the sony.

I haven't had a "properly" hooked up system in years (due to apartment living)
                I'm psyched about it.

I have been in your neck of the woods a few years ago on a golf trip...drove from Halifax over to PEI via the ferry near you, played at Crowe Bush, then drove back on the bridge and played at Fox Harbour...beautiful part of our country!

Hey everyone. I've been lurking around this forum for almost a year now and decided it was time I became a member.

I'm almost 22 and I go to school for chemical engineering up in the Keweenaw of Michgan's upper peninsula. I'm a musician myself playing trumpet, guitar, and piano. I got interested in car audio first as a summer job and was no different than most teenagers (focusing mainly on bass). More recently I've learned there is much more to sound reproduction and have begun blowing what little money I have on home audio equipment.

I've built several of the project in the parts express project showcase including the magna cum laude (for parties here at school), the millenium III's, a slightly modified version of the woodies (for a friends parents), and am currently working on Zaph's ZDT3.5's, the tri trix for my brother, and a center channel to go along with the millenium's. I certainly couldn't have gotten this far without the help of everyone in this forum.

                                      Current system:
                                      Yamaha RX-V661 (weak point)
                                      Parasound hca 2200 II
                                      Parasound hca 2003
                                      Speakers: Parts express Millenium III
                                      Audio Technica PL120 w/shure m97
Other than vinyl, everything's currently run off my computer (mostly flac)

I hope to learn a lot more from everyone here

                                          Hi folks ,
My name is Thomas though most people call me TK. I am in the aviation business and have been for 21 years.
I am from hot , humid LA (lower Alabama). I have been into the home theater thing for several years and found this site when getting the upgrade and DIY bug. There is a ton of knowledgeable people here and hopefully I can learn some things from you all.
                                          It's great to be here

anything on 2 wheels and HT of course.

HT is still SD. Using old school custom Adire 5.1 system with Onkyo receiver, HTPC,
DirecTV, and 36” direct view CRT with NEC HT1100 PJ on 60” 4x3 pull down 60”

Next project is rework of garage stereo with the new tweeters, bridging of A500’s and
separate tweeter amp. Waiting for the fall, when it’s cooler, and while I’m not trolling the delta
for stripers. I am also going to build a new box for the 12” Quatro gathering dust in the
                                              garage.

Ah, Mike, now we have to build you a nice surround system hanging from the trees, there, for your hammock.

                                                  Hi all.

My name is Ryan and I'm a 20 year old college student. I'm attending the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and I'm a nursing student.

I got into audio when I was about 13 after hearing my friends Honda CRX. I was amazed with SPL at the time. So when I got my first car, I went out and bought two Visonik 12" subs. I ran with that for a while and eventually sold it to pay for my senior class trip. I then bought an Fi Q 12". LOVED it. I'm now starting to get into the HT end of things and I hope to learn a lot from you all!

                                                      Hello Everybody,

I'm currently in the middle of finishing a double major in Electrical/Computer Engineering. Nathan (I've heard his statements. All I could say was WOW) showed me this website. I love listening to music. Everything from Christian Rock (Skillet) to Beethoven. I got into car audio when I blew a speaker in my truck. I've done 2.5 systems since. The half is because I'm on my second subwoofer design in my truck. (The one below) I started with a pair of 8" fosgates in two ported boxes under the back seat. Everything worked out so I could design it off of the recomended volumes from fosgate. It really sounded good especially for the space it required. its only problem was a little port noise if I turned it up loud enough. When I wound up with the L5 (free by the way) I decided it was time to try again. after a couple of weeks playing with win isd, my Dad and I built the box. The woofer is located directly behind the center console firing up, connecting to a cavity under the back seat (the truck now only seats 4). I'm not a Basshead, but I believe bass should be felt.

I am currently pondering designs for some new home speakers, and I just found out my church is starting a building project and could use some help with the A/V. Everything is still in the wishlist stage while we come up with some budgets. I hope I can get some help with that even though its not "home" theater.

Thanks for putting up with all of that. I've read a lot here already about speaker designing, and you guys have amazing projects. :T

                                                          Hello!

Well, I guess the best way to introduce myself is to tell you about me.

I am a big fan of music, especially classical and violin music... Of course I listen to everything from Jazz to Techno, but my main focus is classical, violin music and string quartets.

I started into hi-fi audio not a long ago...

Started with a Pioneer VSX-403 and a set of Bose 201, went to RX-V995 with Bose AM5 to Harman Kardon AVR-247 with B&W 602s3 and finally to where I am now...

I have little experience with audio, all I know is from what I read and from what I have tried.

My main goal in this forum is to learn more about audio & video, get to chat with nice people and of course make friends.

                                                          I guess thats it...

                                                          Thank you!
In love with Rotel and B&W

                                                                                      New here and hello everyone.
I've been into surround sound since about 1990. Started with a Sony VCR / Yamaha amp/ Sony cube speakers and a 28inch Toshiba TV and I loved it all. Really wanted a laser disc player but could not afford the £850 in those days. Any how ive had some upgrades in that time the most significant 1st upgrade was about 1992 , the KEF uni Q 10 /10 centre speaker and L&R fronts and this made a massive difference /then came another yamaha amp (cant remember what model it was) Now i went old school got some sonus faber speakers and a roksan Caspian amp and cd player when the Caspian range first came out (gosh) it was about 13 years ago .
Still loving the sound of 2 channel music I missed the pro logic sound for the movies so being young and stupid i sold all my Roksan stuff and got the denon 3802 with the ruark vita 100 5.1 speaker system and to be honest it was brilliant and still is after all these years. Now ive got some arcam gear with my original sonus faber speakers id love to share experiences /help /advice with all of you
