Hi Michael, and welcome. :welcome: Hehe, you might be surprised at the median age around here!

You picked a good stystem to start with if I may say so. It's solid and will give you good quality sound whether you decide to upgrade or not.

It's not a matter of whether I decide to or not...it's too late for me now
I've got the bug...I can't stop.. every time I go to Audio FX it costs me at
least a thousand bucks...that's why I don't go to Rainbow Electronics..
ever priced a Shoreline Amp ?

Slayer...yep ..Audio FX is where I ended up...I'd been everywhere else.. don't know if I was just getting tired or had heard enough for the moment..
I just needed to get something..so far I'm very happy with my starting point..

You have a favorite place in the Sacramento area?

          Michael

            hello,
            another chris here

i am just a beginner in the HT realm, but the bug caught me quick. i grew up in northern jersey, then moved to rochester, ny in 1998 for college. currently i am stationed in camp humphreys, korea. i am a battalion chemical officer (not by choice) in an apache helicopter unit.

my first passion is automobiles. i am a HUGE VW fan, currently owning 4, and a 79 vette (it was a free gift). currently all my equipment is separated between my fiancé’s house in NY and here in korea.

i've been reading this forum for a couple months now and the information is wonderful. i look forward to continue broadening my HT knowledge. thanks for reading

                        An yet another noob

Hi I would like to introduce myself. Found this site a few days ago and have been reading on it as time allows. My name is Fred Slawson and I live in Louisana. Please don't hold that against me LOL. I am 50, been married for 27 years to the same women, and have 3 kids. I love DIY stuff and have remodeled all my homes for the last 16 years. I have added rooms to two of them. This last home I am in I added at 15X 20 room for home theater. Now please understand I originally laid the room out to put in a pool table but after getting it enclosed I stumbled onto a site called avsforum. And the rest is history. So my theater has more lighting than it needs via double french doors and 2 windows but I can handle that with curtains and what not. I plan on going front projection with a panasonic 900 or maybe the new one coming out. I really want to build the WMTW center and the accompaning WWMT mains that go along with it, as time and monies allow. You folks have a great day.

Greetings all, my name is Brian and I just found this site a few weeks ago. I've been lurking and reading up on all the great info here. Just a little info on myself: Im 34 years old and live in North Little Rock, AR. I moved here about 9 years ago after graduating from the Univ. of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, MS. I work as an exercise therapist at the VA medical center here. This is where I met my wife of now 7 years.

I've been into audio and electronics for most of my life. It started with car audio back before I could even drive and has now blossomed into a love for home theater. About a year ago we bought a new house which already had a perfect room for my modest theater built above the garage. It's 13x24x8 with canted ceilings. Pics are in my sig if anyone cares to look. My equipment consists of a Pioneer 1014, Zenith 318 dvd player, Comcast 8412 HD/DVR, Panasonic AE900 projector, Elite 100" fixed frame contrast gray screen, Klipsch RF-35 fronts, RC-35 center, 4 RS-5650-S surrounds, and and SVS PC-Ultra sub.

The sub is the main reason I found this site, by following a link from Steve Callas over on avs forum. Since then, I've been researching a DIY sonotube. Steve C, Steve nn, WillyD, and Hmenke have been a huge help and have pointed me in the right direction. I plan to go with Steve's design recommendation and use a 320 liter sonotube with a 6x27" port for a 14.5hz tune. I just purchased my 24" sonotube and have it cut to 48" tall. I have on order a 15" tc-2000 svc driver and the buttkicker amplifier. Hopefully they will arrive sometime next week. I just went this week and bought the wood and misc supplies needed and plan to begin construction tomorrow! I've got a construction thread going on over at avs, but I plan to start one here as well.

See you guys around the forums!

                                        Hi All, long time lurker.

My name is Alex, 32 yrs old from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Currently I own B&W 804S speakers alongside a Primare I30 amplifier and Primare CD31 player.

I'm in the middle of upgrading (again ) towards a Classe Cap-2100 and CDP-100 player if I can get a fair price from my dealer. I'll have to wait and see.

I own about 1200 Cd's (original) alongside some 250 DVD's (mostly music DVD's). Anything from Allman Brothers to ZZ Top to Gn'R to Elvis and so on. Lots of (Southern) Rock, (Outlaw) country and pretty much every Gangster Rapper out there.

                                        Cheers,
                                        Alex

I have been on this forum quite a bit, but up until recently never really left the Rotel or B&W areas, so I never saw this thread.

My name is Nolan, I live in Vancouver BC and just turned 29. I have a beautiful wife and we live in a loft with a nice view of the mountians and ocean. Home theaters are a great interest to me, but none of my friends share the same passion as I do for it, so I do spend some time on HT forums almost everyday trying to educate myself. With out a doubt the HTGuide has a group of the classiest members then any othe forum I have seen.

Most recently my attention has gone into learning about, and enjoy the new HD formats. Aside from HT i enjoy wine, cigars, single malt, keeping active various ways and enjoying my wifes great cooking. My next major purchase will likely be a dog.

It will have excellent synergy with the mountains, forests/parks and rain (especially the rain). Once break-in time has passed, there will be no risk of upgrade-itis or buyer's remorse later on.

Your first accessory should be towels by the door for wiping off mud. My golden could find mud in the Sahara...it's a special skill he has and seems to be common with the others we meet.

Hey there folks! Because I never seem to venture beyond Missions Accomplished, this thread has eluded me until now, so sorry for posting other places without introducing myself! ops:

Anyway, I've been building speakers for about 10 years now, always other people's designs, beginning with the Adire Bang! which my kids still use...mainly cuz they are efficient and thus go LOUD!

Sadly, my woodworking skills seem to have maxed out at framing carpentry, so my projects tend to look, well, a bit rough sometimes. Here's a pair I built a few years ago and gave to a friend of mine. Anyway, I look forward to learning alot around here, and then eventually getting around to building my own HT off the back of the house. Gotta stop building speakers first though. :T

                                                            Hi,
my name is Rick I am 30, Aussie, and i registered 1 or 2 days ago.
I had been wanting to get into HT for years but my previous partners would not allow the spendature that was required.
but since late 2005,I have been single(and Happy)and been working hard at my HT.

My last partner gave away everything I owned while I was seeing my eldest daughter
(needless to say thats why I walked)

                                                            I have 4 children, two girls,two boy.
Girls ages are 14 and 8,and the boys are aged 10 and 2.
At this present time I am unemployed and in the process of getting my license.
I bought a pioneer receiver (6.1 channel)years ago and although I was dissapointed with the amplifier section(e.g distortion)I was amazed by the surround processing though( motorolla chips)

Next year will be a great year for my HT (many new toys will be gracefully entered into the racks)

Its good to see that this forum has all ages

And I must say this forum is a great place for learning and helping for those of us that really need your help and advice and for that I say thankyou to all.

Also I posted a list of what my HT consists of in the picture thread, and if anyone is able to give me a step by step guide to post my pics there, that would be most helpful and utmost appreciated (or I'l see if my niece can do that when she comes round next) anyway its good to read a little about you all and I hope that you get what you all need from this forum (as i do )
P.s how do you use the icons??

I looked at this site last February as I looked into and purchased a Sony KDS-50A2000 rear-projection HDTV. Totally dig it (the site and the TV). Revisited over the last few weeks as I was looking into... hmm, upgrading hardly captures it... exploring the world of high-quality audio. This site was invaluable in giving me information on equipment to consider and then go and listen to. I'm thankful for this.

About meself: 45yo, musician (guitar, singer, harmonica, bass, percussion, songwriter, have a small studio in condo), 6th-grade teacher.

For years I had an Onkyo integrated amp (tx-8410), Onkyo 6 CD player, Mission speakers. All that time considered it passable. Listened to music, always thought it didn't sound great, always thought I couldn't afford higher end stuff, had no idea what that was or how much it cost. For a musician I now find this odd, but there it is. Few years ago replaced a blown speaker in the Mission, then couple years ago blew another and...

Began looking into new speakers. Began searching, asking, visited big boxes and local run-of-the-mill electronics stores. Considered Bose, etc. Then visited a higher end shop thinking, nah, can't afford this...

Listened and realized what I'd been missing. Researched, considered budget, listened, researched. Probably visited this site, don't remember. Anyway, bought Paradigm Studio 20 v3. HUGE upgrade in sound, had never experienced anything like these at home. Think I could not have done better for the price and my tastes.

4 weeks ago. Cranked stereo. Hm, these Paradigms could sound much better... Started looking into maybe a new amp. Began listening and learning, crash course in hi-fidelity. A month ago I didn't know the difference between stereo and surround, 2.0, 2.1, 5.1, etc. Had no idea what the differences were between well-built high-end stuff and... other stuff. Had not even considered that the CD player could make a difference. Hey, how would I know if I never experienced it or asked the questions?

Hmm (I thought to myself), maybe I need a whole new system...

I have spent many many hours online looking here and other places at reviews and testimonials, gathering info, edumicating myself, and hours upon hours in a local shop that sells... good stuff, listening, learning. Along with affordable (more or less...) options, I listened to systems way out of my price range (McIntosh, Sapphire and Confidence Dynaudios, B&W 800D and 802D, etc. A spiritual experience in sound...) and realized, yup, I need a new system...

I use my system for roughly 60% music, 20% npr, 20% TV/movies. Decided on stereo. Surround just doesn't interest me. (spose it would if I had the space and money, but honestly I look at that as a luxury--for me, not a judgement for anyone else--and not as a necessity as I do for hi-fidelity music.)

I bought a new stereo system. Wow. This. Is. A. Whole. New. World. Wow. I'll post details in other threads, but let me just say: Rotel. B&W.

                                                                            Wow.

I bought an Oppo for my DVD player and love it. I currently have no cd's, but I do have a music server with everything backed up to it. The only problem as of now is that it hums when it is plugged into the system and I have no idea how to take care of it.

                                                                                        I love concert DVD's.
