She was a tall leggy woman...believe she was Lucille Ball's kid...something Arnez.

I honestly don't know if David Keith would remember me. Maybe. I was a couple of years younger than him. So, we weren't ever "buds" or nothing. He always did a great job in the school plays. His start.

Bob, knows half of Hollywood I am sure, lol.

I could have been a contender

During university, I did one stunt for 21 Jump Street that ended up on the cutting room floor.

For some reason neither the stunt coordinator nor any of his stuntpeople could ride the recumbent bike they had purchased. I think his name was John Wardlow.

They often filmed on campus and on this one day, I watched their entertaining efforts for a while. Finally, after seeing real frustration on their faces, I offered up my advice as a very experienced recumbent builder. They were skeptical, but when I was able to identify the builder that welded the machine, they let me ride it. When it was obvious I had some skill, they hired me to teach someone how to ride it. I didn't hesitate... it would a fun way to skip class. After a day of very bad trial and much error, they asked me to ride the stunt myself. Of course, much more fun than class.

The script called it the "Egg-Mobile" and I was supposed to come to a wobbly stop at the base of some statue. Well, they didn't tell me the thing was hollow so it moved about 3 inches when I grazed it as lightly as I could. Even so, as "directed" I mashed the brakes and fell sideways as ungracefully as possible. After John and another stunt guy pulled the body shell off to get me out, the crew gave me some muted applause. The two most entertaining things were that I had been turned into a blond white kid (I am brown with black hair) using gobs of makeup and that I could eat whatever and as much as I wanted at the craft tent.

Peter De Luise actually introduced himself and I can safely report that he is a very, very, nice guy. He told me about the food. Mr. Depp was not very sociable - maybe he was busy in mental preparations for his role, but considering how friendly everyone seemed to be, I thought it was kinda weird.

Oh yeah, for two days work, they gave me over $1200 CAD and this was back in the late 80's. The money is how I know it's truly a crazy business.

          ensen.
Those who claim to be making history are often the same ones repeating it...

The best way to explain me is a Canadian living in Australia. Born in the North, live in the South. I love Canada and I love Australia. I'm 26 and hail originally from Richmaon Hill, Ont.

I moved to Aus. with my Mom when I was around 13, I go back and visit my Dad, Brother and family often. My Dad and Brother own and operate a great sign shop in Concorde, Ont. They work really hard and I'm really proud of them. They do all the Sony and Telus stores in Ontario. I miss Canada but Australia is the most easy place to live in the world, its a must visit (you might not leave ).

I took the plunge and got married in August. Channy is my best friend and I love her very much. She is still coming to terms with the HT addiction : but she knows that it's important to me and gets excited over interconnects when I do. Its great when she asks, "It makes the sound better, how?".

I work for a great office fit-out and technology company with a great bunch of guys.

I love this site, its so good to have a well of knowledge and nice people to talk to who share the same passion.

I do miss spring time at our cottage on Stoney Lake, ALOT. (Pic below attatched)

No more snow shoveling for me every winter, it might only get down to 9C in Brisbane during winter. They don't know the meaning of 'wind chill factor' in Queensland. But the 30 to 40C summer months are a killer :hb.

                  About Myself...

My name is Nick, and I'm a single 22 year old guy from Central Massachusetts.

Started building my own PC's in college. Thats when I fell in love with high pixel count video and surround sound.

Engineering wasn't what I thought it was going to be, so I took my credits and split my sophomore year when I was offered a good paying job in the wastewater industry. In 2004 I quit my job, and hit the road for 4 months. Drove 20,000 miles and hiked over 300 throughout the Lower 48, Western Canada (BC & YK), and Alaska. Developed an unsatiable addiction to sushi (maguro futo-maki, hamachi nigiri, and unagi nigiri).

Got another job in the wastewater industry working for a local "Town Of". Started taking Flight Lessons in the fall of '04, which are really hitting my budget hard. I'm going back to college part time next semester to pursue studies in foreign language as well. I still don't know what I really want to do for a career, so in the mean time I'll just expand my skills through classes and use my dough for HT, fine food, and traveling.

As far as HT is concerned, I have no debts or monthly payments, and don't plan on aquiring any so it will take me 5 or 6 months to build a satisfactory setup. My audio setup is complete, and I'm saving for the projector now.

In the mean time I'll just read about and stare at the photos of the wonderful setups you guys have here!

                  ~Nick

Nick, you sure have been busy for 22. Great story. Don 't sell that 41K a year job short. There is benefit to stability, benefits, etc...

I'm 24, born, raised, and currently living in Portland, OR. During my rebellious high school years, I dropped out of school and moved to San Francisco, where I worked as a Web Developer for a short time at an advertising agency. Unfortunately, San Francisco is a money-sucking tarpit, and I moved back up north. Got stuck in odd jobs for awhile after the collapse of the tech sector, until I met my girlfriend, Christina, a couple years ago. Oddly enough, we met online via a now-defunct discussion list for experimental/noise music, and we've been living together for the past 2 1/2 years or so with our two crazy cats. Currently, i'm employed as a Home Equity service agent for Wells Fargo. Go figure, the kid who hated math winds up working at a bank. More strangely, the company I worked at in San Francisco was almost directly across the street from one of Wells Fargo's main offices (Market and Montgomery for the SF locals).

I've had the music bug since I was about 13, building quite a bizarre collection of music, both vinyl and cds. Currently, the collection is housed by two 600-space anthracite Boltz racks, with a bookshelf of sorts temporarily
housing our records. When DVD came about, I was managing a video store (like I said, odd jobs!) and got hooked, and thus the DVD collection began. I didn't get into Home Theater, however, until my girlfriend's brother gave us his old Sony receiver and a few mis-matched Sony and Pioneer speakers. We visited a hi-fi store for the first time this past year, to audition a pair of Dynaudio Audience 52's. Hooked to Classe amps, the sound just completely blew us away - it finally dawned on us that day how awful our current setup is!

Apart from our multimedia interests, i'm an avid synthesizer geek. My most recent synth is the i-can't-believe-it's-not-analog Alesis Ion, which is really phenominal for the $700 I paid. This, and my other bits of gear, get hooked to one of our home-built AMD-based PC's, running Cubase SX as a sequencer/multi-track. I'm also a bit of a bookworm, building a small but nice collection of cyberpunk novels, surrealist fiction, political essays, and art books.

I'm new to HTGuide, but have been lurking for awhile. Now that I actually have some room to put cash aside, i'm starting to get more actively involved in developing a nice, relatively affordable audiophile/theater system. The forum here seems very welcoming and knowledgeable, and I hope that as my system grows, I can contribute more than the usual, "what do you suggest?" posts

I missed this section of the forum when I first joined, so here I am now. I agree that it's great to have an area like this where we can get to know one another a little bit.

                        So...

I'm 29...but am now closer to the 30 side of being 29. I was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I'd never had any intentions of leaving until I met my (now) wife while she was studying abroad at Melbourne Uni. To cut a long story short, I moved over here to North Carolina, USA in 2000, have been here since and love it.

I studied electronics back in Melbourne and it was then that I gained a love of high/er end audio equipment. Since then I've wanted to get some nice equipment but haven't been able to. And me being me, instead of buying something to get me by in the mean time, I've just stuck with the stereo my wife used through college. It's now starting to die (after living a hard life) and we're in a situation where we can do something better, so I'm taking the opportunity.

Other than being a bit of a movie geek, I greatly enjoy playing guitar (which I have since I was 8yo), training and playing with my german shepherd dog, hiking, camping, hunting, travelling and spending time with my wife.

Things being what they are, it'll be some time yet before we can really drop some money on the equipment I'm eyeing. So, until then, this forum is looking like being a regular hanging out place for me where I'm hoping to learn from people's experiences, knowledge, etc. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute at times too.

                        Cheers,
                        Christian

Long time audiophile, new to forum...

Hi all! I'm a long time CA sound freak just "getting back" to it you might say. 2 kids, business (freelance artist), motorcycles (dirt now with my 2 boys), boating (a must for the wife) ... gee, oh yeah, really good stereo (!) are part of my revolving passions. I haven't been "involved" really for some 10 yrs or so, but it'll always be an interest at least as long as I hold onto my hearing

15 yr old (?!) Denon 1520, DBX CX1 pre, BX1 amp driving Apogee Acoustics Duetta Signatures (hey, what happened to Apogee??), Hsu Research subs powered by Adcom, nice acoustically treated art/listening studio. I'm beginning to settle in again & looking to revive my interest in dark room listening. I'll be posting some questions in later threads. I've much to catch up on & I'm looking forward to conversing with forum members. I have some serious equipment updating to do :T

Let me give this a try..

I'm 37 yrs old, born in City of Bell California, (famous for Bell Helmets) and stayed around mostly in Southern Ca and ended up in Manhattan Beach, amazing how the real estate been jacked-up at this neighborhood. I run a limo service with a business partner whom I only see when he collects his dividends, my wife is a Cardiologist for DHS(County of LA) and a daughter on the way.

Living close to the water makes me enjoy what I enjoy most, surfing!! It's just an absolute rush to surf at 4:30 in the morning, running down the street with your wetsuit on and people not familiar with this practice look at you funny while they sip their Starbucks(yuck!!!) talk about yuppie scums invading my neighborhood with their fat wallets. It's just a great place with alot of character.

My A/V equipment is somewhat minimal to some in this forum, but I really enjoy it. It's a great stress reliever. Lex! You guys got a good thing going here.

I'm a 52 year-old sivul cervent. If I ever find out what I'm supposed to be doing at work, I'd have to shoot myself. I got into audio when I graduated from college in 1974. I wanted a stereo that would record tapes. the prevailing tape medium being the venerable (vulnerable?) 8 track. One of my instructors whow used alot of AV stuff in his grad school work advised to avoid 8-track because of impending improvements in the cassette medium. There were few, if any, all-in-one stereos that had cassettes, so I had to get into seperate components. After a couple of evolutions, I now have a HT system. The latest addition is a DIY (first foray into DIY) sub with a PE 500 watt amp and Quatro 15 driver in a ported enclosure.

                                        Hello,
I'm here on the Southside of Indianapolis Indiana with my wife in a 50's Limestone house not upsetting the elderly neighbors with my movie watching. Our bookshelf now has more dvd's than books but that's ok.
Thought about multichannel but soon found two channel with a sub works fine and takes up much less space. I wandered upon the CAT Cable website a few weeks before finding this Forum and look forward to trying them sometime in the future when it is time to make a couple other changes.

I can relate to Lex's 70' Mach One, I used to live down the street from our local Dragstrip where all the big names used to race.(Don Garlits/BlueMax/etc.etc.) My first car was a 68' Charger 440 Magnum and some neighbors had a 69' 429 Mach One w/ a welded posi he drove on the road and said it was slippery in the rain then there was Jeff's 70' 383 RoadRunner and Dave's 70' 383 Charger and Rick's Mercury Cyclone w/ I think a 429 and he also for a short time had a 396 ElCamino. Boy, how times and technology have changed.

Anyway,.........there seems to be lot's of interesting things to read at this Forum.....This place is LOADED! :B

Just got to a place in life where I can afford some toys, nothing too exuberent but it suits me. I am pretty fruggle but don't mind paying for quality. I have spent the past year turing my living room into a living room with HT benifits. We have been remodlign and I put a built-in ETC in the living room wall to accomidate my stuff.

                                            Hello Billz,
I should be recieving my power cord plugs in the mail today from PartsXpress, they have quite a lot to choose from. I also lately have been thinking about putting an FM antenna up in the attic to really bring in those stations.

That entertainment center you built probably gives you lot's of satisfaction and you get it the way you want.

Yeah, after hanging my HD / directional up there, I am kinda longing for good FM reception now as well. I would be interested in hearing what you end up using.

I think your right about building something and enjoying in more. This system is my creation, while it may not be the best out there, it covers my needs and performs very well.

                                              Thanks!

Now....if only I could get some help on my optical issues....

Hi, I've always been into audio/video systems growing up as a kid. My parents always had decent equipment.

In my twenties, I lived in apartments/condos, so I had to hold back and get small cheap systems so I didn't disturb my neighbors.

Well, I'm builidng a new house now with a dedicated HT room. I joined the forum to ask questions so I can get the most from my upcoming HT purchases.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, This is my first time here

                                                      Greetings,

Let me introduce myself. I'm 53, separated with two young adult kids, and live alone. While I have many friends, I am not in a serious relationship at this time. I teach a 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' program as my principal occupation - the core of which is intensive training in meditation techniques. While very rewarding on many levels, it is somewhat financially challenging. If you would like to know more about me and this work I do, you can check me out on a website at www.radicalgrowth.com

What brought me to this website and forum is my plan to create a meditation room. This room will have a pretty awesome feature in addition to being a room with an environment condusive to creating an atmosphere of peacefulness. I am going to have a 'Star Map' painted onto the ceiling and walls - a mini planetarium, so to speak. When the lights are turned off, it's as if the ceiling and walls have been torn off, and you're on top of a montain staring up into the galaxy. It's pretty way cool!!! I experienced this at a friend's and stayed on the floor, staring up at this 'Map' for over two hours! In a strong sense, this room will be a Home Theatre, with a HT sound system, though the visuals come from luminescent dots all over the ceiling and walls.

Anyway, for full effect, the room needs to be completely dark. There can't be any light leakage at all. Now, at night time, this isn't a big problem. However, if I'm to use this room in the day, I need to find a solution. The room has a sliding glass patio door about six feet wide, and a modest window about three feet wide. I'm not sure how to navigate this forum site - perhaps this isn't the right place to ask for help. I would really appreciate any advice anone may have for how to solve this problem without spending a great deal of money. One other thing is that it would be nice if the surface to block out the light could be relatively flat as stars could also be painted on it so that in the dark, there would not be any gaps in the skyscape.

Thanks, and wishing you all well,

                                                      Lou

Hello all. Name is Chris and live in the far far far far west Chicago suburb of Aurora (not really sure it can be considered a suburb but hey it sounds cool). Been married for 9 glorious years (are you reading this honey ) and have two beautiful children. Our daughter just turned 5 earlier this month and we have a 2 year old son.

Current home doesn't really suit a home theater which is why I am glad it is currently on the market. My only wishes for the new house are a) a dishwasher (my wife always says she married her dishwasher) b) a better garage for detailing the autos and most of all c) room for me to build the kind of media room I want.

Just bought a Denon AVR2805 to run a pair of B&W 602s and a Marantz DV6400. Video is being displayed on a 27" Panasonic Superflat TV that was purchased about 4 years ago. Plan on adding a center and sub for now since I have the Denon. I use all Zu Cable cables for audio and video. This equipment, minus say the Marantz, will become the upstairs system once we are in a new home. I will be looking for assistance when it comes to building up the room so everyone prepare for a lot of questions from me.

Interests include mostly British rock, Formula 1 and road bicycle racing. Sorry for the long post....

Adding a sub made a huge difference in movie watching with our 2 channel movie watching.

Interests include mostly British rock, Formula 1 and road bicycle racing

I'm a 27 year old "kid" that is single and just enjoying life... There's way to many girls to settle down yet! ha ha. Just kidding, if I find the right woman, I'm ready to settle down, but until then... :T

I've lived all my life in Southwestern PA about 10 miles south west of Pittsburgh. I will never have another Football (american) team than the Pittsburgh Steelers, win or loose, I bleed Black and Gold. :B I'm also a die-hard hockey fan (Pittsburgh Penguins) but it's pissing me off that they would rather have money disputes than "make" money by having a season. ARGHH.

Anyways... I graduated from Slippery Rock University (SRU) back in 2000 and have gone through mulitple jobs in my field of Information Science. Right now I'm a site support for home infusion company doing all the computer/telecom/server/you-name-it work. There's about 180 people at my site but over 2500 total for the company (I work at one of the branch sites). So far, I enjoy the job and it pays well (just not what I wish it would  ). With the way the economy has been, I'm happy to have a job. I would really like to get back into working more with the infrastructure side of IT and into even networking as I find that all facinating and very easy to pick up. One of those things that just comes naturally to me, though I don't know why.

My hobbies include a little of almost everything. My one car is in my avatar, a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 and it's babied with only 12K miles on it. Once it's all said and done will be pushing updwards of ~550/540 HP/Tq naturally asperated. I'm doing all the work myself (well once I start with it) so it's going to be a labor of love and won't be done any time soon. After that I'll think about Turbo/SC/Juicin' it and getting upwards of 700+. My computer/HTPC and Home Theater are another passion/hobbie of mine.

My first HT was back in 1994 with a Pioneer Dolby Pro Logic receiver. Ahhh goood times were had with that. I (since then) have been updating and upgrading each piece until I got to the Rotel/B&W setup I have now which I love, but still isn't exactly what I want to finalize to. My current setup is the Rotel 1098/1095/1080 combo with the RT-1080 tuner and Cambridge Audio Azur 640c CD and Pioneer Universal DVD player. My speakers are all B&W 600 series 3 (604s x2/LCR600/602s x 4) and an SVS PC+ 20-39 sub. I think it sounds pretty darn good for what I've put into it, but I know what I want to get and will someday!

I love movies, as shows by my collection, and it's what's lead me to the wanting a very nice HT room. I prefer the HT over going out to the movies because I like the comfort of "home" and it shows as this is my 11th year with one!

It's definitely tough having two really expensive hobbies that will very quickly drain your bank account.

On top of all that, I'm wanting to find a house in the next year or so and if/when that happens all the "toy buying" (as all my friends call it that are married with kids and a house) will stop. But that's okay, I love to remodel and can fix virtually anything with in a house.

Well that's a brief bit of me... :thanku:
