    iPhone as Sound Level Meter

This looks pretty neat for iPhone users, turn your device into an audio signal scope, level meter, or signal generator: http://www.faberacoustical.com/products/iphone/

I have one on my Windows Mobile PDA phone... I forgot where I got it though, half of it is in chinese. It's fun to play with for stuff like loud sports events or movie theaters and such.

that iphone one looks pretty awesome though.

I agree with Dougie--cool, but not a tech spec microphone you're using.

Now if you replace the internal mic with a nice quality microphone or something....could be useful

Apparently the second generation iPhone microphone is not too bad, and there is a calibration process to nullify it's effects further.

            From their website:

The iPhone’s built-in and headset microphones exhibit a remarkably flat frequency response, making them suitable for basic sound level measurements. However, due to sample rate limitations and frequency response degradation, SoundMeter is not recommended for use with the built-in microphone of first-generation iPhones.

Even though default sensitivity values are included for the iPhone’s built-in and headset microphones, for best results, SoundMeter should be calibrated before use. Sound levels may be off by 6 dB or more when using the default microphone sensitivity.

I'm just impressed by their detail in describing the frequency response of the phone's mic!

So the Apple press conference is going on now.

iPhone7 and Amazon just posted up some cases about an hour before the start of the press conference.

So dual lens camera and no 3.5 mm headphone jack. Faster processor and probably a IP67 rating. Those are the rumours to be confirmed...

My wife got me a Sony PEG-NR70V Palm OS PDA for my recent birthday. In the week I've owned it I have totally changed the way I use a PDA. It's really amazing that the current Palm OS can be pushed this far.

It has the very best screen of any PDA I've ever seen

I recently got an iPhone 6. And I loved to listen to Pandora on my old iPhone 4s but this one is really fatiguing after awhile. I first noticed it on my car stereo with it's digital connection hooked up to my kenwood receiver. With the 4s I was in heaven and pandora sounded so good with good recordings....

Sound level meter: digital or analog?
                    by hired goon
                    G'day,

I want to measure the bass output of my speakers in my room. I've got a Stereophile test CD with 1/3 octave warble tones (down to 20 Hz), and a Radioshack digital sound level meter.

But I seem to recall problems with the digital sound level meter (something to do...
