Why can't the HD networks (ABC,NBC,FOX,CBA) broadcast over dish?

I don't really want to buy an OTA antenna.

Can't stand that show or any of the so called "Doc in a box, TV". The reason? Probably my having worked in a trauma center for 12+ years. Nothing they show on TV approaches the reality of the situation. One of the shows on TLC is close. But talk about a "busmans holiday"

Anyway was this ER broadcast actually downconverted HTDV? or was it just a reformatted standard broadcast?

Thomas it smy understanding that ER is filmed in widescreen so it wasn't reformated so much as shown OAR for a change. Apparently a lot of the new shows are shot this way now.

from the few minutes I saw it was 1.85:1 and wasnt HDTV , If it was its about twice as bad as the " Fugitive" on CBS
It wasnt on the HDTV/DTV station 46-1 in Portland which is their HDTV station but was on 46-2
While I applaude widescreen Ill save my Kudos for HD widescreen like CBS has sported and continues to implement including "true" HDTV like Thanksgiving Football as well as Playoffs and Super Bowl, also they are rumored to start filming several shows whith HD cameras soon
Common NBC .....Leno? and ER widescreen? you can do a lil better then that
