    Question about interconnect cables.

    Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post.
Are there different types of RCA cables for Tube Amps and Solid State Amps. Dif impedance etc.
    Thanks,
    Asi.

Nope they are all the same, just the quality of cable is what makes the difference. The better the cable (like Cat for example) will sound a lot better than say your local radioshack cables you'd get.

      Thank you PewterTA,
That's what I thought. I saw some Chinese dealer on Ebay selling "Tube Amp cables" and I wanted to make sure I can use them.

Be very careful dealing with "some Chinese dealer on Ebay". You could wind up using nothing but your credit card and Preparation H.......

I have purchased two mid level items on Agon, a Rotel RSP-1066 and a Dynalab FM tuner, and was hoping it was place of high trustworthiness, based on my experience and its rep.

I had read some posts lately about counterfeiters operating out of China and Malaysia. I bought a couple things on Audiogon and had no problems. I would just raise my caution to the level of difficulty involved in pursuing a refund.

Sad to hear about the 'gon. Over the past year I have purchased several items there including Rotel equip. and M&K Sub. My first attempt at the M&K sub didnt go so well. It arrived inoperable due to shipping damage. Luckily the seller took it back, no problems. 2nd sub, different seller, arrived perfect.

Nothing but good experiences on the 'gon for me. (knock on wood)

Yup , I've had excellent results from the 'Gon , but I follow basic safety precautions. I avoid any region with a higher than normal number of problems. Lately , that has been Asia.

I see where this thread is headed, and it's not really useful for our site at this time. So, please turn off the customer appreciation/dislikes for auction sites.

I for one, vote to support your local dealer on in store dealer only items, support your HTGuide sponsors for other items.

If the original poster needs good cables, why not see a pro, namely me. CATCables.com will sell you just what you need, without the hype you don't need.

actually, I think this thread has run it's course, if auction discussions continue I will close it. It needs to be on the primary topic only.

It's a good idea to pay some attention to the cable specifications. The area where you'll see the most sensitivity to variation is for preamp to amp connections with vacuum tube preamps or passive preamps. Why? It's a matter of the output impedance of the source, versus the parallel shunt capacitance of the cable, which forms an RC low pass filter at some corner frequency. This may also be a factor for the output of CD players with vacuum tube buffer stages, which are popular with some audiophiles.
Depending on equipment location, the preamp output to power amp run may be longer than other cable runs, which means the influence will be greater (RC network with lower corner frequency). With this type of equipment, braided conductor constructions without a sheild (like the CAT Cables SilverCATs) will probably provide the best performance; the braided conductors reduce common mode pickup substantially, but with minimal cable capacitance.

If you use equipment with higher than standard output impedance, the cable capacitance should be a criteria for cable selection. For more conventional solid state gear, with output impedance in the 22-100 ohm range, cable capacitance, unless it's unusually high, shouldn't impact performance.

Excellent post Jon. I will also add that twisted pair reputedly does have a lower capacitance than a non twisted pair cable, which possibly explains one reason Kingcats have been so well received due to their twisted pair topology because most of my patients, I mean customers do have solid state electronics now. Jon may confirm or deny that, I do consider him the true electronics expert here, not me. :-) I just know a little about cables.

ROFL. Yeah , Doug picked up a couple bits on cable construction along the way! Have to agree with his previous post. You will probably never get your money's worth from "some Chinese dealer". Talk to Doug. He has many very happy customers around here. We don't hang around for the free beer!

In the last few years I've found several "imported" beers are now "brewed under license" in Canada. Nothing against our friendly neighbors to the north , but now Foster's , Tsingtao , and Sapporo all taste like Molson's.
Now , before a roving band of patriotic Canucks comes down here to drown me in a vat of LaBatt's , I have nothing against Molson's beer. I just don't want my $8 six-pack of Sapporo to taste like it.

Asahi is a Japanese beer that you might like if you enjoyed Sapporo.

Some beers I tried when in Korea are Hite, Cass and OB that also have a dry clean finish and are worth at least a try.

I'm not a big fan of Labatt's and only like Molson's Dry. Its a shame if Sapporo now tastes like Molson's . Had it over 10 yrs ago before it started tasting like Molson's Canadian? (shudder) and it was a great beer. We still know how to correctly make Toyota's up here tho -Russ

I like Asahi very much. As for being drowned in a vat....

A brewer fell in a vat of Guinness and drowned. His supervisor called the man's wife and said "I'm afraid there's been an accident here at the brewery-your husband fell in a vat of Guinness and drowned". The wife replied "Aye! The poor soul didn't suffer much , did he? Pray , was it a quick death?"
The brewmaster replied " I'm afraid not , ma'am. He got out three times to pee".

When I'm comparing RCA cables for Tube Amps and Solid State Amps I find that the very best beer in the world to drink is Steinlager.

If thats the case(pun intended) then maybe Steinlager would come on as a sponsor of HTGuide :W -Russ

Now if we could just get a single malt producer to be a sponsor!
