It is cool Trev! But I am not sure how functional an LCD screen is on the player like that. Well, perhaps for some. I dunno.

Yeah, that's the Halo line V-1. They first showed it at CES 2001.

We're a few months out from its release. We should have some much lower res photos of the V-1 and C-1 on Secrets tomorrow.

Lex -- the point of the LCD screen is twofold. You can do previews on the screen, and you can use it to do configuration / calibration without powering up the monitor. It's got some pretty cool features, and I hope I can talk to the Parasound people about it some more this weekend.

      Regards,

Trev, I'm surprized you don't have this on some "Pre-order order", or something like that :B

Interesting. Any heroic digital/audio/video design features?

My reference point for high end STB DVD players is still the Ayre D1. 'Course it costs a pretty penny.

This Parsound has the "high end" look- I wonder what their goals were, and how they went about it. For playing DVD-Audio, the front panel LCD could be a godsend, with the variability of disk menus. Is this player DVD-Audio capable?

              Regards,

              Jon

                    Bing,

They had to leave something for next year's upgrade along with the nine channel HT surround.

Sound's like it's got a pretty flexible scaler built in- I wonder who's chip they're using? "Single chip PC with Linux" makes me suspect GeForce, using an nForce MB chipset. If so, this is very good video fidelity, but not *High* video fidelity, unless there have been some improvements since the standalone cards. WINDVD is the only player I know of with a Linux version; so I'm speculating that could be the playback controller.

Don't have any idea where they're coming up with the DVD Audio and SACD multi-channel in a Linux PC, unless it's their own card.

Lotsa options and outputs- I bet the back panel is pretty amazing looking. :B

So, is this unit coming in under $5K, or are we talking second mortgage territory?

                    Best regards,

                    Jon

The more I look at this one the more I like it.
Definately will be considered as my next DVD player when the SD-9200 needs to go. However that could be a while.

Jon,,I beleive it should be under 5K but have not confirmed it yet.

Just looking at this hunk of beauty makes my mouth water. This has GOT to be expensive. As for the LCD screen, I wouldn't like that if it was on all the time. Perhaps it can be turned off when showing movies.

I've been sniffing around the web, and reputed pricing *is* in the $5K turf.

NOT an impulse purchase, I think.
