My terrible photos don't do the speakers justice, they look much better in the real world

Seems I've been in a Beatles mode lately, so on the sound part, I can only say this:
It's getting better all the time!

Most impressive, with no sense of strain at any volume I care to listen to. Decent, though not monstrous, sized sweet spot, and a good bit of kick down to the limits of the woofer. Are they as good as the Acoustats yes. The bass characteristics aren't the same as the ESLs are. I haven't photographed them yet, but the Acoustats are doing surround duty.....

So the majority of my frequency range is reproduced by dipole drivers. Awesomely cool!

For the most part I run them full range, but when I know I have bass that's well beyond the capabilities of the speakers, I use the preamp/processor (as opposed to the stereo preamp) and engage the digital crossover.

I don't have any tools to measure with, and since ThomasW and JonMarsh have been doing measurements of late on similar drivers there's no sense in my doing them. Distortion is reportedly higher than would be expected, and there was one other anomaly that they tested but I forget the anomaly. It is important to note that there measurements are for the stock RD-75 and I don't know what (if any) mods are done to the driver in my speakers.

              Regards,

Building a nice system there John. The rack is very distinctive. I like the look! Don't know much about the new speakers, but I must assume they have improved your audio experience, and that's what it's all about.

                Enjoy,

                  Lex,

I'd been saving for the SL-2s for some time after reviewing the SL-3s last year for Secrets.

The SL-3s that I had weren't for sale (they were a production proof). I'm also happy to report that every critique I had in my review was addressed (as promised).

Nice people to deal with, and I'm amazed by their performance more each day.

                  Regards,

Nice "round Tuit"...seriously, doesn't having the Tv inbetween your speakers screwup the sound stage? I notice your have their positions taped, do you move them from critical stereo listening?

Of course it compromises the stereo imaging, that's the tradeoff I have with an integrated HT / stereo environment. Not as badly as you'd think with the dipole / planar wavefront though :-)

I have the positions taped because I need to mark the locations of my reference speakers. That way I can get them back into position quickly after either sliding the rack out for adding / removing a component, or for returning the mains after having some review speakers in the system.

                        Regards,

I got rid of that "hunk" of glass between my speakers problem by going to a Front projector, the screen mounting flat on the wall it really heard as nothing but the wall.

                              Kenny,

That's not coming for a while, probably another year or two -- I've other expenses around the house that will come first, but eventually I'll be going either FPTV or Plasma. Some of that will depend on how quickly price erosion occurs for plasma displays.

                              Regards,

This is certainly a staple of home theaters. What would a home movie theater experience be without popcorn? Up to now, I've always just used the microwave popcorn bags or small hot air popper. But with my theater project, I just had to buy an antique popcorn popper to put in my rec room/theater lobby....
