Would this be asking for too much?

It would be nice if there was a compilation of HT equipment in the form of a database here. For example; the lists would show 15 different brands/models under each specific line of equipment. i.e. Receivers;DVD players,Speakers, cables, connectors etc.... The lists would be sorted based on popularity and only the top 15 selections (averaged) would continue to make the lists. Secondly, other than of course the pertinent specs and comparison breakdowns, these would also show price points and you would be able to sort this lists under any heading that you wanted; crossover rates, power ratings, impedance, amplifier output details, etc..... You guys know what I'm taling about!.

How bout it? I'm sure someone is a database wizard out there. This would be an excellent resource for people like myself (novice) and the avid enthusiasts. It would make for great discussion as well as objective and subjective evaluations.

So, is it possible (could it be constructed under this type of forum) and would others see value in this type of database of information? I know I would!

    Thanks,

    Brian B.

I like that idea! And, I'd be willing to author/maintain the DB. However, the presence of Club Rotel and its members would seriously weight some of the categories into their favor. Not that Rotel isn't a fine brand, but there are lots of other good components/amps out there that might not get a fair numeric shake simply becuuase of the number of Rotel'ers here.

    Any thoughts y'all?

      David,

If the database was weighted heavily by objective measures (75%) and less to brand loyalty measures 25% then brand loyality should give way to brand & model quality.

It would be interesting to see the findings if the database can be created with as much as the biased information removed from the report. Of course we would not want to take all the loyalty away from the report because this is what makes for great debate!

      Thanks,

      Brian
