    Damping factor

    I am still in the process of learning and selecting/setting up my home theatre. I have noticed that multi-channel amps usually have a much lower damping factor than 2 channel amps.

    When listening to 2 channel source material driving B&W 9NT's, would there be a real world difference between the following amps (assume same brand amp, same design and overall quality level etc)?

    1. 5-channel amp, damping factor 180 vs.
    2. 2-channel amp, damping factor 1000

    Pretty sure anything above 100 is enough.

      I'm no electrical engineer, but, from what I've heard, including electrical engineers, a damping factor of 180 should be fine. If you want to read more on this point of view, you can read the following link:
