Great Review, I couldn't help but notice what they said about the Denon DVD9000: "The deinterlacing performance and issues were essentially equivalent to the DVD-3800"

14/108 vs. 12/108 and audio identical at 24/192 with same chip, the SiI504 8) I'm not that smart, BUT, I'll take the DVD3800 and save the $2300...

    That's alota beer :^x

Hey that's the one I was looking at..for the bedroom.
Only because it plays back DVD-Ram , therefore is compatible with my DVD camcorder.

Trevor honestly I'd move the tosh to the bedroom and keep the 82 in the HT...you can't argue with its performance

Yes, but good luck finding one. At another forum, many members are having no success in finding an RP-82.

That RP82 looks to be a heck of a deal for a stand alone DVD player!

Interesting that the NVDVD 2.22 player I've been using the last couple of months got high marks from them also.

The one point which closes the deal for HTPC is the built in scaling with a good video card, which STB DVD players don't offer, of course. Though I suspect that could change, particularly if HD-DVD get's off the ground- there's no reason not to have backwards compatibility with std. DVD and scale it to the HD output resolution you're using for playback. And with the HTPC, the droops and quirks in the frequency response, or the pixel cropping issues, for example, are totally non-existent.

            Best regards,

            Jon
