OH MY GOSH...what should I do?

Ok all...I have an opportunity to buy a brand new SONY VPL-VW11HT LCD PROJECTOR for $1,760 total shipped to my door!

Am I nuts to consider it? It's from a guy in NY and he had three of them to sell...hmmm...are they HOT? Is he crazy? Or am I crazy to think of this?

I'd pay 1/2 now, then he'd ship it, and upon receipt I'd pay the other half?

Help me out fellas...talk some sense into me or tell me to go for it because offers like this only happen once!

I would be very careful, if you don't personally know this guy. This seems to good to be true. I don't think I would send cash try to use your credit card that way you have some options if this turns out to be a scam.

You know the old saying...if it's too good to be true...it probably is... :?

You have to ask yourself how trustworthy is your source?
Does he have any references?
Can you afford to gamble that much money?
Do you know anyone in NY that could go pick it up in person?

Sounds too good to be true. These projectors run in the $5000+ range, and it's the current model too. I'd tread carefully...

Here's one thing you can do.

Ask him for the serial number. Then contact the manufacturer to see if it's legit. If it's hot, they likely know about it, for service.

If he doesn't even have one of the projectors, you won't hear back from him. If it's hot, you won't hear back.

Be careful, guy could be thinking make an easy 7-800 and figures you won't worry about that much money.

That or consider using an escrow service. I haven't heard much about that service in a while, forget the URL. again, if it's a scam, he will run.

Thanks Lex, I just checked out www.escrow.com and e-mailed the guy that I'd like to use this place if we do the transaction...that way he does not get paid until I fully inspect and test out the unit!

If figure if my wife says it's ok, and we can use escrow.com I might just do this thing!

Another payment service you could consider is PayPal. I think it may be free of charge for a new member.

My 2 cents? Never, ever deal with an individual or small internet shop without a payment service, unless you know them personally.

You couldn't buy an 11HT even at wholesale for that amount of money. There are a lot of scams on the internet right now. Thankfully, Erik took suggestions here and all ended well.
