    Room treatment unnecessary just slouch

So I've just discovered in listening to my b&w 804d's that if I slouch in my seat so that my ears are below the top of the couch pretty much every aspect of the sound is improved. Soundstage is much more developed, treble and midrange clearer and bass richer and more authoritative. Due to the shape of my room i'm only a foot or so from the back wall and being a rental I can't hang anything.

I am truly amazed at the difference "hiding" from the rear reflections has made!

    Try it

Put some throw pillows on top of the couch so you don't have to slouch. Then you can enjoy better sound and comfortable sitting too!

Yes, I've noticed that phenomenon as well. You can also raise your hands, cup them and hold them near and around your ears and see a similar change in sound. Geez.....us audiophiles eh??? We'll try any cockamaimy thing to get improved sound!!

I sense a business opportunity here - an audiophile hat with velvet lined "acoustic channels" hanging down around the ears, thus eliminating the need for room treatment. I'll probably make a few million out of this.

In all seriousness this has at least convinced me that without doubt the next thing I should be spending money on in my system is room treatmemt...

I'm just choosing to gain weight and make myself into a bass trap.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

We plan to move to a new house soon. It is a rental, so we have to live with the space pretty much as is. It is obviously not an optimal “listening room” but I wanted to ask what kinds of room treatments I should consider (there will be a carpet in the listening triangle).

                    My current...

Surround speakers when your couch is right against the back wall
                    by Jim85IROC
My living room is pretty shallow (but quite wide), and our couch is right up against the back wall. To make it worse, that back wall is actually our staircase, so one end of the couch has that wall all the way to the ceiling, and the other end of the couch is at the base of the staircase, so it's wide...

                    Acoustic treatment needed or not?
                    by csuzor
Before paying $250+ to get an acoustic expert to look at my photos and room layout (by mail, no actual visit), and then recommend I spend thousands with him, I'd like to get your advice whether acoustic treatment is needed in my lounge room. The photos are heavily compressed to get into the 100kb limit....

                    Acoustic treatment for Apartment HT

                    Hey!

I posted another thread about my HT room size in an apartment block I'm considering moving in to.

My current apartment block has concrete floors between the storeys, and although I can hear people walking from time to time on the floor above, it is usually quite quiet....
