I'm not a HT expert, but IIRC, 'War of the Worlds' has a ton of LF.

Iron man, Dark Night, and Death Race all look pretty great.

But, for some reason HellBoy II looks super good.

Just watched Hellboy II last night and it is definitely reference quality. I have King Kong on HD-DVD and it's a reference disk for that format. The Golden Compass is another that has outstanding PQ.

My staple for testing the audio portion of my HT system is the opening segment of Goldeneye, including the drag race sequence. For video it is Planet Earth.

More for fun than a true test, I always love in Finding Nemo, the scene when Darla is tapping on the fish tank. On a good sized screen and with the right sub, you feel just like you are inside that fishtank with the rest of the fish!

Ah, yes. I've bottomed out my sub a couple times on that scene while calibrating and testing. Another pseudo-cool thing about it is that it's INSTANTLY after another scene, so it really catches you off guard. With a good sound system, it'll make your guests jump.

Star Wars II opening scene w/the chrome pimpship flying in is a good subwoofer torture scene. Both the fly in and subsequent explosion.

And my all time (and still) favorite demo scene is the Saving Private Ryan omaha beach scene. Between the bullets flying every direction, in and out of the water, flamethrower into the bunker boom, etc. Very "directional" sounds if that makes sense.

Does anybody have a recommendation of a horror film that would be a good tester as well? I don't know of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure you guys have some ideas

I used to really like the opening of Gladiator as well. Can't wait to see that on BD. For now, my new demo disk is the opening of The Incredible Hulk. The scene in XMen3 where Piccard, I mean Professor X gets killed is good too.
I'm just sittin here watchin the wheels go round and round...

The original Halloween as been released on BD and an uncut Friday the 13th is coming next month, but I don't know how good the transfers are. Good horror films are kind of a lost art. I recently enjoyed The Ruins and The Strangers, but neither were visual extravaganzas.

You might also check out the Masters of Horror releases on BD. I saw this series on Showtime (HBO?) and some of them were pretty good.

                                  Hey guys
I am new here and im already loving my stay.

I came across this topic and thought it was a great one. In fact i have started to work on a DVD project that i believe might help us all.

I am taking the dvds of the movies you guys are suggesting and grabbing the best clip that has best sound and making a separate DVD for this site.

I do need your help, in assisting me in giving me the Frames you guys like to see on the DVD for example.
In the Movie Hancock do you want to see the outside Hollywood fight with tornadoes or the train crash. Also if not too much trouble give me the TOC Timing so i can be precise on them.

Hope to hear from you guys.
I will upload these to my FTP as ISO's and you guys can grab them, and burn them on DVD.

I guess it depends on whether you want one for PQ or SQ. But below are my personal favorites when showing off my setup.

                                      For Blu-ray PQ:
                                      - Any pixar film
                                      - POTC trilogy
                                      - I, Robot

                                      For Blu-ray SQ:
                                      - Hulk
                                      - Dark Knight

THX Wow! demo disc is sweet if you can get it. I have it and it is awesome.

Polar Express 3D BD. 3D sucks but watching regular is great and the sound is sick, it is great for audio demo.

I see sites and or on ebay people charge for discs like this, i wanted to bring this to the community free of charge.

If the release is successful i will be doing more of these.

Can you still find copies of that for sale? I found one on ebay and bought it, and it was a freakin burned copy with menus in German. Royally pissed me off and I raised a big stink with ebay over it. I still kept it as I really like the demos, but would still like to find a legit copy.

My demo material has been a good mix of live action, animation, and various scenes with superb soundtrack mastering. Scenes I still go back to include the Lobby Scene in The Matrix on DVD (Have it on BD, but haven't given a proper comparison), the Opera in The Fifth Element (Reissued BD), the Leo/Raph fight scene in TMNT (HD-DVD) and Crescendolls in Interstella 5555 on DVD, DTS Soundtrack. For actual movies/films, I mix it up with Shoot 'Em Up (BD), Paprika (BD), and Wall-E (BD). All in all, there's rarely "Universal" demo material that everyone agrees upon; whatever you think shows off your setup in a positive light is considered good demo material.
