    HT room size?

I'm in the very early stages of house hunting and I was wondering what size makes for a good HT. Currently my setup is in my living room for a view space of about 13 x 13 x 8.5 and it soots me for now, but not nearly enough space for a 7.1 setup...

I'm wondering what do other people have for their setups?

    Sony kds-60a2000\Panasonic BD-55k\XBOX 360 Premium(20gig)Slingbox\Xbox(flashed) running XBMC
Emotiva UMC-1\Emotiva XPA-5\Klipsch (2)RF-7s with DeanG xover upgrade, RC-7 with DeanG xover upgrade, (2)RS-7s\SVS 20-39PC+

my old house had a room 14' x 28', seating was approx 15' from the display (56" CRT RPTV) and although I sat a bit far from the diplay, the dimensions allowed very good use of the 7 speakers (Front LCR, di-pole side surrounds and direct radiating rear surrounds).

My new place is approx 12' wide, and 22' to the rear before the room gets assymetrical (no rear wall at 22' to use for rear surrounds, so I'll be installing a single 2-channel in-ceiling speaker in the center rear position in place of the two direct radiating rears I used.)

12 feet, in my oppinion, is getting kinda skinny, but I also have to enter from the rear, if you access it from the side, 10' wide is prolly OK.

My 7.1 setup is pretty much the same as Bent's. My room dimensions are 14 wide at front to 16 wide at rear x 17 deep x 8 high. We sit about 13 feet from a 92 inch wide screen.

I'm curious...did you design the room with the trapezoidal shape or was it just like that?

It could have been rectangular, but the room's relationship to the rest of the basement allowed me to get some extra room at one end, which where I store most of my dvds. It worked out pretty good.

My current room is 13.5" x 21.5" x 8, if I had the chance to pick my room size I would make it a tad bigger somewhere right around 16 x 27 x 11. I would have more room to play with acoustically first and second the seating arrangement would work better.

Hey, Ben, good to see you! :later:

My last theater was 22' long by 14' wide, 8' ceilings. Worked good, but I wished I had more width. Current theater is 22' long, 21' wide, 8' ceilings, with the back corners cut with 45 degree angle walls. Works good.

With a room that size, I would think that you would need one h3ll of a sub(or 2 for that matter)....I'm sure the angle walls helps for soundstage though...

My man-cave is an L shape...it is about 25 feet long,at the 15 foot mark it veers off to about a 10 foot L.
Seating is at the 12 foot mark from the wall and screen...it is 20 feet across, which makes the left surround a little away from the rest of the system. There is an overhang at the 15,16 foot mark where I placed the 2 rear speakers. The ceiling is 8 feet...

Just completed latest project, SR-71, and sound great - particurally for music. Even more important, wife who was skeptical during the build likes them! YES! Switching to movies there is the obvious limitation of a 3.1 system which identifies the more pressing project vs. a larger sub which would simply...

First off for the many lurkers out there like me I would like to say thank you to the forum I have learned a ton over the last four months which has helped me ask good questions of my dealer and plan out my project. I do have a question for which I hope I will not get stoned for asking.

                      Getting the room right
                      by jim1961
Well, let me start by admitting that there isnt any one right room or way to do a room. But one can do is define what one hopes to attain and see how to get there. For me, I want a well defined soundstage, pinpoint detail and depth. But I also dont want a dry or dead sound. (I am wanting everything,...

Room size and impact of surround spkr
                      by 2channellover
After about a month of researching I'm getting close to a decision on spkrs for my new HT room.

The room is medium size I guess for HT...21'wide by 17' deep by 10' h, the screen will be on the 21' wall, and seating 13' from the screen and approx. 11'/12' from the LCR spkrs.

                      Recommendations for rear surround options

I recently built some Swope MTM's (which I love) as main LR's for my home theater and I was originally planning on building the center and rear surrounds to round out the set. I'm still planning on the center but now, because of how my living room is setup, I'm wondering what the best course of action...
