    series connected speakers

I'm wiring up a full range Wharfedale assisted by two tweeters & two woofers working with 6 dB slopes. In order to keep the total impedence within reason, I'm thinking to wire the two 10 ohm tweeters in series with a 2 mF cap. The two 15 ohm woofers would be connected in series with an 8 ohm inductance. The woofers, tweeters & 15 ohm full range would all be in parallel for 7.14 ohms.
Is there any inherent problem in wiring speakers in series?
    I'm not looking for a 3-way crossover.
    Thanks for any help.

I can't answer your question, but it sounds like an odd combination of drivers.

May I inquire about the purpose of it all?
There are some things which are impossible to know, but it is impossible to know which things these are. :scratchhead:

What's an 8ohm inductance mean in this context? Seems like pretty high value.

        Kal,
That's what I get for not proof reading... that should read "8 mH inductance". The crossover (as I read it) would be 600 Hz.

        whoaru99,
I'm boosting the top & bottom end of the full range 12" Wharfedales on OBs. I hoped to go the additional step & use two tweeters & two woofers with each full range speakers. I would have preferred to wire the woofers in parallel to get an increase in output but the total impedance would have been too low. Now I'm trying to determine the best combination or whether to just use a single tweeter & woofer with each fullrange. I'm told that I may have problems with "comb filtering" by using a pair of tweeters side-by-side facing up. Unfortunately, I don't comprehend the ramifications of comb filtering.

When there are 2 high frequency point source drivers playing the same passband, the sound will cancel at some frequencies and combine at other frequencies.

If one looks at a frequency response plot it looks like the profile of comb. The teeth are where the frequencies combine, the voids between the teeth are where the frequencies cancel.

The effect of comb filtering is terrible sound

BTW it's a 8 mH inductor, not 8 mH inductance

            Inductance

Inductance is an essential electrical property that arises in conductors and coils due to the presence of magnetic fields. It is one of the key elements in electrical circuits, along with resistance and capacitance, and plays a significant role in various electronic and electromechanical systems, including loudspeakers.

Definition and Symbol: Inductance, denoted by the symbol "L," is a measure of an electrical component's ability to store energy in

As Jon is obviously infatuated with the new HDS exclusive series and keeps referring to it in all kinds of threads, and as I usually take this as an excuse for further threadjacking, I guess it makes sense to open a separate thread. This is about the new series as well as any findings and thoughts about...

            WOOFERS WIRED IN SERIES-Help Please
            by bottlebrush
I am considering building an WWMT, using two 8'' or 10'',4 ohm woofers wired in series to give 8 ohms nominal. Bass performance is very important to me(not boomy, but tight, accurate and punchy). Can anyone give me some serious reasons why this will not be satisfactory, compared to 8 ohm woofers...

            Hi all,

After listening for some months to my latest two designs, I've reached a conclusion... I don't know if its wrong, but it certainly seems to match what I've observed.

I've noticed I'm always trying to make speakers as sensitive as possible. Due to this fact, my designs...

4 woofers walk into a bar...
            by augerpro
So I gotta question for you guys...say I were building a 3 way with 4 woofers. I've read that woofers in series can have an unforeseen impact on the bass alignment due to slightly varying TS parameters. If I were aiming for an 8 ohm nominal woofer section I can wire it two ways: a pair in series wired...
