    Bought an arcam

Hey all. After a couple months or so of searching for a new receiver I have finally pulled the trigger on an Arcam avr300. I went to my dealer(190 miles away) and finally got to listen to some stuff. I compared it to a NAD T754, T744 both new and a Arcam avr100 used. The avr100 was noticably better than the NAD but the arv300 was better than both of them as far as punch and soundstage. The avr100 had a year left of warranty and was selling for $750 CDN, the T754 was new and selling for $1200 CDN with 2 years untransferable warranty and the avr300 was new at $2000 with 5 years transferable warranty.

I probably would have been happy for awhile with the avr100 as it sounded very good and was better than my old Denon 3805 but I would have eventually wished i had gotten the 300. Anyhow I have it all hooked up and it sounds great. The mids and highs are super crisp and clear and it doesn't tire my ears like the Denon did after awhile. I have it bi-amped using the unused 6 &7 channels and there is plenty of power there for two channel listening.

There are a few options that the NAD had that i wished the Arcam had such as "Advanced stereo 2" which puts sound only to surround speakers. I found that to be nice for late night tv watching and not keeping everyone awake. The NAD remote control was also more user friendly as well but I have figure out the Arcam remote now and am getting used to it.

One nice thing about the Arcam is that it is not very high so it fit good into my rack which only had around 9 inched total clearance, and it still has room to cool. This was very important as I had to limit my receiver search to a certain height because I could not change the space I had available in my TV stand.

I'm pretty happy with my new purchase but now I am wondering how much better it would sound with new speakers and a different source. I have Polk audio Monitor 70's up front with CS2 and Monitor 40's surround. My player is a cheap Toshiba. I guess I'll be back shopping soon.....the madness never ends.

Congrats on the new Arcam, Jayman! There is nothing like the satisfaction of quality sound.

    Enjoy!

Arcam make great amp sections, so you have (should you ever want to change them) many more speaker options (many receivers won't properly drive 4 ohm rated speakers, but the Arcam will and that opens up a number of possibilites). Enjoy.

It's "Harry's Hi Fi" in Regina Sk. He had it in his rack with a 300, 250 and a 350 all new, and I couldn't tell the difference by looking at it that it was 4 years old. It was MINT. I could grab the phone number for ya if you're interested. He told me he was selling it for $750 and there was still a year of transferable warranty left.

Found it - thanks. Can't get his website to work, but the 'phone will do.

Hey another Arcam owner, welcome. I have an AVR 200 and it is driving a pair of B&W 703's for 90 w/side stereo and 70 w/side in 5.1 which is plenty loud enough for movies and music. It sounds great and its source is a Rotel 1040 DVD player. Now could I get better, sure, but now I have money to buy material to play on it. The pre and amp sections in this receiver are clean enough that I can tell differences in cable swaps.

Thanks for sharing some of my enthuisasm fellas. Only thing now is I'm starting to notice the weaknesses in my other gear. Most everything sounded ok on my Denon but with the Arcam the quality recordings sound great and the poorer ones sound like crap. This could be due to the Arcam's attention to detail I suppose. Anyhow...still liking it. I am tossing the idea around of upgrading my source and would like to stick to arcam to match. Anyone have a good idea what cd player would make this sound even better?

I would like to keep it around $500 if possible and yes I would consider
used. I have seen the Arcam DV78 used for around $500 but am not sure if the Dac's in that would be any better than the ones in my avr300 so it might not be worth it other than for the better video but if it is no better for music I would probably pass.

Hey all, I have been in the hunt for a receiver for awhile now. I thought it was over with my purchase or a NAD T752 but the unit had issues so I sent it back and got back my money. With the little time I spent with that unit I really enjoyed the sound quality compared to my old Denon 3805, plus I loved...

                          by abba
I have a rotel 1067 receiver and it has been suggested by several people that this receiver was not the right choice for my B&W n805, htm7, cdm snt, and velodyne sub. They are saying the Arcam AVR300 is the right choice to drive my speaker system. Saying that it has more power and a better match....

                          Hi,

I recently acquired an Arcam AVR300, however I do not have any speakers for this amp to drive. I was hoping for some advice on somefloorstanding speakers that sounds nice, and may complement the amplifier.

I have listened to quite an array of speakers so far, and nothing...

Recently came across a s/h Arcam CD72, I immediately snapped it up from a local hifi shop. I compared it to the 92 and yes did notice a difference but not major sonic differences, especially when comparing price.
