    presence?

    Gentlemen;
I've just purchased a Yamaha HTR-6090 receiver. I'm presently trying to absorb the manual before making all of the connections.
I've run across a speaker connection I was unaware of: Presence.
    The amplifiers are 120w x 7 & the L & R presence speakers make it 9 speakers.
I assume (!) that these are outputs that are derived from the main front L & R outputs. Are they limited frequency outputs? They don't appear to have much use outside of some theatre emulations.
Other than that, I'm planning on using the rear surround amps as bi-wiring power for my old 15" dual voicecoil infinite baffle sub. The upper limit will be set at 90 cps (I know, I know, it's Hz. I'm showing my age).
The five surround sound speakers are presently (gasp!) RS LX5 with their Linaeum tweeters & cast aluminum infinite baffles that roll off at 90 cps.
In my own defense, I'll be reworking my Old wharfedale cloth surround speakers into open baffles for use as the mains. They consist of one pair each:
    12CS/AL full range
    12CS woofer
    3" tweeter.

The presence channels share the same amps as the center rears. It's a front effects channel made up from other channels, similar to SDDS digital surround in the theaters.

I've never enjoyed it the few times I've heard it and wouldn't worry about it.

Advice needed: Semi-open or infinite baffle project?
        by harryharry
I am thinking of a new speaker project in my bat cave. I use this room mainly as a listening room for stereo sound but do also have a home theatre system installed with a projector, a 110 inch screen, a center channel speaker and surround speakers.

I am now considering setting up a new...

Exploring Common DIY Terminology - Infinite Baffle

        Infinite Baffle

The term 'infinite baffle' can refer to at least two different aspects of loudspeakers and loudspeaker design. The first is part of measuring and comparing loudspeaker performance. The second is a type of loudspeaker 'enclosure'. We'll take a look at both here.

        Design and Measurement

The concept of the infinite baffle is a technique used in loudspeaker design and testing to eliminate the influence of the speaker's rear radiation on the measurement...

        Wooooooow !

That's it ! As some of you may know I was going out to find a nice 5.1 set. What I found on my search was not what I expected. I did not know surround can be so realistic.

A little dealer, far out in the nowhere, a little village aside from a major town, showed...

Surround Sound Satori -- please help me get more!
        by cdwitmer
First my main question: If my main goal is to listen to music in 5.1 surround, and HT is only a distant second in importance, do I still need to go out and purchase closely matched speakers? Or will it be fine to cobble together various pairs of speakers large and small that I already have on hand?...
