Getting the most, from my equipment

    hello everyone,
I am new to most of this...

    This is my system:
    Hitachi 43" HDTV
    Sony HT Reciever: STR-DE845
    Sony DVD: DVP-NS715P
Fisher Studio Standard EQ: EQ-283 (old school)
Polk RTi 6 (left & Right)
    Polk CSi 5 (Center)
Infinity Modulus Emit K's (Rear)(they need new ribbons)
    No sub...(Yet)

I also have, but not using at the moment:
Modular Componet System (M.C.S.) 3710 Tuner (Old School)
Modular Componet System (M.C.S.) 3835 Amp (Old School)

I first want to get my set up as acurated as possible...
I have no Idea what all the adjustments are on my reciever,
and would like to get it set up properly...

    Adjustments as follows:
    Treb ~1.0khz-10khz
    Mid ~500hz-5.0khz
    Bass ~100hz-1.0khz

I have no Idea what to set these to for my current speakers, Can you help ?

I also would like to know the best way to hook everythin up to each other...
It is hooked up at the moment, and working, but I would like to male sure I have it the correct way...

I am also about to embark on my first DIY Home Audio project....
Havent decided what speaker to do yet...But see a bunch I want...
Can anyone give me some comparison...
I go to the Local 'hi-fi superstore' and here some amazing speakers (ie:Klipsh, velodyne ;x( , ect), and think if only mine sounded that good...
then i come here and everyone is comparing there DIY's to High end name brands, that i have never heard of...
So where is the above mentioned or my own speakers, in this comparison ?

Please help me get the most out of what I have....
    chris

Hi Chris, and welcome to the forum.

I went to the Sony web site and found this link for you receiver.
Page 40 describes the method for setting your crossovers. link

You will have to do it manually ( by ear ) from what I get from a quick glance.
You may be able to use a test CD that generates tones at specific frequencies to help.
Otherwise, you could run the sound through your computer using an appropriate sound card and software that will display the frequency output from your speakers.

Some of the Denon and other brand receivers come with a microphone and sort of ‘calibrate’ themselves.

Basically, this is a feature for tuning the ‘sound’ of you system to you own tastes based on the individual brand/performance of the speakers your using.

You may want to print off a copy of the manual and spend some time studying, there seems to be a whole lot of stuff in there! Try experimenting with the features to get an idea of how it changes (better or worse) the sound you prefer.

well I found out why my TV will not play progressive...
Did a Google and ran across a site that had a "HOW to FIX" section for my TV...

First thing I did was Re-Calibrate it/adjust the convergence...
All I can say Is wow...
it preforms better now than it ever did...
I love the magic blue button...

Second, I saw the articale about progressive scanning...
seems Hitachi finaly owned up to it being a bad chip, and "IF" it is still under warrenty, you can call an Authorized Hitachi service man and have it fixed....For Free !
well, needless to say my tv isn't under warenty...
it does have the part # listed, and said it didnt take long to do...but recomended letting a pro do it...(wonder what it would cost to have it done?)

I am thinkin about replacing my tv's factory 3" speakers for something better
any recomendation to look for in a speaker to replace it with (fullrange, Ohms, watts, ect)

prabobly going to get something from the BuyOut section, for about $10 a speaker...or so
