    Carmen McRae - Live (DVD)

This dvd shows Carmen during a performance in 1986 (Japan). This show was around 80 minutes. And I must say, I really enjoyed it.

To hear this woman belt out the jazzy vocals at the age of ( 68 I believe) was fantastic. She and the trio (much younger than she) really put out wonderful sound. It's almost amazing how much sound a standing bass, piano/organ and drum set can produce.

After watching the disc, I did a little search of her work. She seems to have started putting out albums around around 1955. And has twenty or so to her credit. My library will start seeing more of her work for sure.

The video on the disc is average but, the stereo sound is very clear and dynamic. I listened in pro-logic and was extremely impressed by the clarity of vocals. I never felt the need to switch to stereo.

The music includes old favorites like "That Old Black Magic" as well as a few latin pieces.

Aren't all stereo tracks (on DVD) PCM?

        Hey Bam!

Sorry, the only audio track on the disc is stereo. And as David said, it's my understanding as well that, the stereo track on dvd's are PCM.
